CD case inserts
I bought a used music CD from a seller on Amazon recently. They said the condition was "Used - Like new" but the CD arrived with a crack on the front of the case and also some of the plastic which holds the CD in place was broken. I contacted the seller, they apologised and sent me a new CD case.
Having got the case today, the problem is i can't open the case to put the insert which goes at the back of the case which shows the track listing, etc.. Ive tried to open it but it seems if i pull the plastic to hard it will snap. Surely they don't design these cases so you can't even put an insert in the back? Has anyone here put an insert in before. It looks like there's a small bit of plastic which attaches the inside of the case to the back. |

It sounds to me like an oldstyle "fatbox" double cd case perhaps? Even if it's not and it's a more modern cd case, I find a little bit of light pressure with a small butter knife does the trick. Just be careful not to push the blade in too far or this will indeed crack the plastic.

Normally it takes a bit of force to pull the back bit out, which is probably why you think you're going to crack it. Just do it carefully.

You may find it comes out if you hold all four corners, and twist gently (i.e. hold hinge end in your left hand & other end in right then just move one or other hand)

I'm always replacing cracked jewel cases. To lever out the tray I use one thumbnail to stretch the tray (bottom left corner by the Compact Disc logo) then lift the tray out with fungernails on my other hand under the left side (the hinged side, towards the bottom where my other hand is). Once the left hand corner is free the tray pops out and the fixed insert at the back can be inserted (right way up!) and the tray pressed back into position.
