Alex Kingston herself described the Character as a Time Travelling Archaeologist. Some people wondered what she meant by the Time Travelling bit.

No reason why the Time Agency would not employ someone who had studied archaelogy.

Maybe she was in the Agency, then gets sent to Stormgate (for murdering the best man she ever knew) and after her release chooses an academic career and gets the post of Professor at some University.

Not to be dense, and totally OT... but wouldn't that kind of negate the need for being an archaeologist!

I want to see Captain Jack/River Song banter. Maybe get them both to appear in the Series 6 finale. I am really hoping that River becomes an occasional companion....with less emphasis on the companions family (even if we are to see them in the finale maybe, Im not sure) it is nice to have this grounding. Plus she is what aquaints it all with the RTD era.

Yes. I think there will be a reset button. But I think even reset buttons can be done well. Sometime, with a series like this, they're a necessity to have stories that build on this whole concept of time travel and multiverses and regenerating Time Lords.
