Mortal Kombat Vita was not free when I looked a short while ago. They seem slow with the update this week.

Knytt Underground is due Friday which is when next weeks update is landing due to Christmas.

Yes. You get any required online pass as part of the PS+ service.

12 months of PS+ is currently £29.99 on the store. The subscriptions stack too so you can get 3yrs worth for £89.97 instead of £119.97.

I signed up to Psn+ last night and started downloading the free games but omg is it slow. It's now 10:56am and the games are still downloading now. I ran a speed test using the Ps3 and according to the results (estimated of course) i'm downloading at around 5.5mb.... which is far slower than when I download from XBL.

The speed test result bares no connection to the speed you actually download from the PSN.

That been said some people do have speed issues when downloading from the PSN.

Something worth noting is that if you put a game on which has an online mode or online feature it will pause your downloads.

OK, I am sick of seeing that complaint about the PS3's download speeds, personally, both are the same (Xbox and PS3) and Steam beats them both down, but the PS3 requires a helping hand, check your router settings, if you haven't done so, assign an IP for the PS3 to use, and then forward these ports:

edit: Port Start - Port End - Port Mapping

TCP 80 81 80
TCP 443 443 443
TCP 3074 3480 3074
TCP 4658 4659 4658
TCP 5220 5730 5220
TCP 6000 7000 6000
TCP 8000 8080 8000
TCP 9290 9989 9290
TCP 10000 10500 10000
TCP 20400 42199 20400
TCP 50000 65535 50000

UDP 81 81 81
UDP 2005 2005 2005
UDP 3074 3660 3074
UDP 5220 5730 5220
UDP 6000 7000 6000
UDP 9570 9570 9570
UDP 10010 12500 10010
UDP 20400 30250 20400
UDP 40800 65535 40800

That covers pretty much anything the PS3 will do, yes the download speeds might be slower than Xbox Live, but seriously, the way people moan about it is amazing, ever since I did that for every PS3 I've connected up, the speeds have been a lot more stable.

I've noticed I get slow speeds (sometimes) when I select background download ... otherwise it downloads pretty fast & that's using wifi aswell.

I signed up to PS+ for £30 as I had credit in my account, probably ended up paying about £22 or something which isn't to bad.

Anyway am I right in saying I need to purchase the free games in order to be able to download them at a later date? (As they will get replaced with other free games)

Correct. Just purchase - no need to go ahead with the download, you can back out before that.

So long as you have the red shopping bag displayed, it is yours to download later.

Never finished Bioshock 1 so will get on with that before moving on to 2. Bit thin on Vita for Jan which is a shame as I was thinking about buying on in a couple of weeks time, but with the ones they put on last month I should be busy for a while anyway.

MK on PS3 is welcome too, got to get a few mates round like we did when it first came out!

I usually download at 4MB/s so that's 40MB every 10s. An 8GB game takes a little under 30 mins to download.

It's not maxing my 50MB line (max download is 6.25MB/s but it's not too far off). I rarely get 6MB/s from Steam and when I do, it's not sustained and hovers around 5.5MB/s.

The PS3's Wi-Fi connection is terrible, that's the main problem.

Even with fibre-optic, through wireless my PS3 download speed was no faster than it was on standard broadband (on a 1.5MB line as we can't get any faster). However I invested in some homeplugs and through wired connection am getting top level speeds at all times.

Why would/should wireless be faster? Your wireless router would still be receiving data at a max speed of 1.544Mbps (or 0.193MB/s) from the ISP so you couldn't possibly receive data faster than that. Wired or wireless, it would still take you just under a minute to download a 10MB file or have I misunderstood something?

Think we're just getting confused between MB and MBps.

I'll try explain again:

Current Line Speed: 40MB (fluctuates between 35-40 but pretty steady)

Previous Line Speed: 1.5MB

With a wireless connection, my 40MB line offered literally no improvement on the PS3 download speeds I was getting on my 1.5MB line. Apparently this is something to do with the PS3 not being up to wireless N standards, which most new routers are.

With a homeplug connection (wired), which I have at the minute, the line speed improvements are now reflected in PS3 downloads and streaming.

Speed is measured in Mbps, not MB - file size is MB

Fair enough - but adding a "ps" onto the end of every "MB" in my post doesn't change the point I was trying to get across That being that a fibre-optic connection nearly 40 times faster than my previous broadband connection made no difference to PS3 download speeds over Wi-Fi, while it made a huge amount of difference as soon as I set up a wired connection instead.

I had my PS3 wireless for a bit but found the speeds to be really poor, Have kept it wired since.

I bit the bullet and subscribed for 90 days, I had used my Game gift card to get the subscription & to top up my PSN wallet. For some reason, the code that Game printed up for me for 90 days access never worked, but when I went back, they gave me 3 bits of blue paper, each with codes on for a 30 day access.

I presume that Mortal Kombat which is free this month, is Mortal Kombat 10?

The one with the Freddy DLC? If so, can you play as Freddy online and all the way through the campaign?

Have you played the game before?

There is no Campaign where you choose a character and play through it.

There's an Arcade Mode, where each character has an Intro and Outro after beating the boss, and yes, DLC characters have these to.

The actual campaign of it is a retelling of the first three Mortal Kombat games in a cinematic story split up into chapters and each chapter you control a different fighter who will have a goal, interact with other characters in the story via FMV sequences, etc, it's actually quite well done.
