The use of the goodmans 320gb has been very good, watching doctor who + world cup in HD

but every so often it does record things, the EPG says "NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE" ?

It recorded things using the series link but its getting unreliable.

Freesat has been going 2 years now, are these just start up problems compared to sky who have been going for 20 years and no problems as such ?

It maybe down to the equipment. My humax generally is faultless but I notice on my Panasonic freesat TV that there is often only the programme name available and on a second press of the info button shows no other info like a synopsis is forthcoming.
