Stephen Fry denies calling Dr Who childish or infantile, The show was only mentioned after his BAFTA lecture ended (35 minutes in) @

He was talking about the decline in British drama over the last 30 years and what might be done about it. The point he was making was that there are no longer high quality dramas aimed at an adults that can be sold to an international audience. Dr Who, a programme for children that can be watched by the whole family, stands alone apart from, maybe Merlin. I don't agree with his comparison of Dr Who to chicken nuggets but what he said made sense. He talked about finance and the fear of producers, both the result of social change and (for the BBC) the media.
I happen to believe that nothing, including American drama, can beat the best of British drama, whether it be for an international or a domestic audience. It's a shame that the BBC has been forced to cut down on its drama output over the last year or so.
