I just want to say, this is my GotY along with SMG2. What an amazing game! Far better than I had anticipated, this is an absolute masterclass in level design and gameplay that even manages to make Kirby's Epic Yarn look a little bit limp by comparison.

Just want to let you good folks know that you still have the best yet to come...

Just gonna copy and paste my thoughts on this game from another forum, there's no spoilers and you will have to excuse my gushing praise but this game really is something very special:

This is one of the best 2D platformers I've played full stop, this is what you would call a perfect update, it feels (and sounds!) like the original DKC games in that it has that nice flow to the gameplay but it just builds on that with all manner of extras and surprises. In all it's an amazing game to play. This is up their with SMG2 for my GotY and I wasn't actually expecting that.

Just a quick note on the controls, some people are going to moan a LOT about the use of motion control in this game, I'm not looking forward to that. At first I'll be honest and say I didn't like it, it felt like it was shoehorned into the game just to try and justify the use of it, however after a bit more play you realise they are very sensitive and accurate. I've had no accidents and it's worked 100% of the time for me, it adds to the fluidity of the gameplay and given the choice now after adaptation (which some people seem to be incapable of) I wouldn't want to play any other way. I recommend using just the wiimote as using the nunchuck feels wrong, as you have to shake both of them (like drums) to pound the ground and that's far too much effort! It's also feels far less accurate using the analogue stick.

The gfx are some of the best 2D I've witnessed, everything is varied, the level design is some of the best I've ever played, no 2 stages are similar and it really is such an amazing game. Some of it will challenge you and there's a lot to get your teeth sunk into for the completist. If I could give it a score based soley on my 4 hours of play then it would be 10/10 and I got a feeling it's going to stay like that. Retro Studios have done an amazing job seriously!

This game is fantastic.

Check this site out for vids of all the upper levels. Loads of international ads too based for Europe, US and Japan. My favourite is the Jap one...real slick.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/impressions/24438

This game has got to be ranked up there in the top this year along with Super Mario Galaxy 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Epic Mickey, Sonic Colours.....and the shooter games like Golden Eye, Red Steel 2, COD Black Ops, etc.

I much prefer the former, as not much good at playing shooter type games. I usually get eliminated at the very first level

However, I was addicted to Kirby's Epic Yarn, but it has now been put on hold indefinitely due to DKCR's.

Now that's what I call a good game when you just have to try another shot anytime inbetween your normal life.....i.e. anytime you can have a quick go at it.

That's how addictive it is. Seriously it is. And it's only just been released.

Enjoy folks.

This is one game I'm definitely going to be buying to play over Christmas.

Recently re-playing the original DKC 1/2/3 for the SNES has really put me in the mood for it!

No I'm afraid not, but tbh once you get used to the controls you won't want it any other way. I suggest playing with just the remote, it's all that's needed. Some people are quite lame, they will cry and moan at the difficulty of this game and blame the motion controls but Retro made the wise choice I think in making them compulsory. Now, I wouldn't of said that after the first couple of hours playing but once you really get to grips with the game it adds a lovely flow and finesse to the gameplay that just wouldn't be captured using a CCP. They are programmed to perfection like SMG2.

I've now ploughed a lot more hours into this game now, it's certainly not a small game. I'm up to World 7 and I stand by my 10/10 score. It just gets better the more you play, the difficulty is perfect! it's really satisfying when you beat some of the more tricky parts of a stage.

Completed this now, an amazing game. It's so good I'm not even disappointed that we never got a Star Fox game (which is what I thought retro Studios was working on) it's a 10/10 for sure, it definitely get's harder toward the end of the game lol but nothing too bad or frustrating thankfully.

The controls are perfect I have no idea what some of the reviewers are moaning about, I can only presume they are playing with the nunchuck and remote, where as using just the remote is much better, at least imo. There's loads of replay value, it's worth going back for all the puzzle pieces and K-O-N-G letters etc, got a feeling there's some pretty cool bonuses hidden away as reward for our troubles. The music in this game is outstanding too.

Up there with Super Mario Galaxy 2 for my GOTY. Brilliant stuff, cannot wait to see what Retro Studios next project is!

Retro Studios = the new Rare!

Just pre-ordered it for £29.99, so look forwards to getting it! Very glad to hear you can just use the one remote and not the nunchuck.

Got to agree with everything you've said here. Hubby and I are on level 4 just now and it's been hit and miss getting the jungle pieces and the KONG letters. So you are right about it being replayable to go back and trying to get these. This is what makes the gameplay more difficult for those who really like challenge, whereas just getting through it is challenging enough for those who just want to get to the next level.

As for reviews, I haven't seen that many that are bad and in fact, most places it's getting 10/10 which puts it right up there with Mario Galaxy 2.

Its no secret I'm not a fan of the Wii but have to admit I do like the look pf DKC. However I dont think one game is worth purchasing a whole console for. So I'll just read what you lot think. I did really like DKC on Snes though.

^ You would''t like it, It's has a very 'kiddy' happy vibe about it for a start, not big hard army men in uniform f-ing and blinding and shooting everything in site with tons of gore and/or brain fragments flying across the screen slowmotion in golourius HD.

Plus it has motion contorl. It is in fact VERY well implemented and the more you play the more they become intuitively accessible. Though many other certain types of people are still bound to struggle and they get angry when they can't pass one of the more hard core stages seen in the later stages, screaming how "it's the bloody motion contorls that's ruined it!" It does get VERY hard later on!

Most of that would probably would rule you out Then of course you have the dilemma of buying it, I mwean what would people think.. I guess you could always lie and say it was for you 7 year old sister if you wanted to remain cool of course.

I dont give a rats about effing and blinding and shooting games, I play more then just that and I've already traded COD Black Ops so your arguement is pointless. And I have fond memories of gaming when I was a 'kiddy' I still play N64 etc

If the motion control works well then fine. Its when it doesn't work that pisses me off. Motion control wont replace controllers imo BUT I don't write it off totally. Some games it works, others it doesnt. You say its well implemented then thats good.

Tbh I dont give two turds what people think. If I buy a Wii despite what I've said in the past and people wanna call me a hypocrite then so what? I don't care. It's my choice. Everyones entitled to change their mind. What are you on about being cool? Not thinking the Wii IS Gods gift to gaming is cool? Reason I didnt lthink much of the Wii is cos it had no games that interested me, now it does.

If I wanna buy a Wii I will and screw what everyone thinks about me.

ETA: FWIW I dont have a sister and I don't need to liue to anyone to jusity my actions. Gaming is about fun and I think DKC looks like a lot of fun.

^ Please don't take what I was saying there too seriously haha, I'm only having a laugh. All the WIi bashing I've read from here recently and just how WANK it is from certain posters, (youself included) just gave me that little extra push needed to write a stupid message.

I'm not trying to stop you from buying one, I think you should, that way you can realse how wrong you have been when you said Nintendo do not make any decent games anymore.

But Motion contorls aren't for everyone, even if they are only subtly impilimented like in DKCR or MG2, you still get people moaning about it even though they are fine tuned to perfection. These poeple are just lame gamers who point the finger at everything but themselves for their inabilities. (not a dig at you)
