Thoroughly disappointed with O2 upgrades
Biffo the Bear

You know, after being with the company for what, about 8 years now, I'd have thought that they'd finally cut me a good deal on an upgrade for once! In the past it's been like squeezing blood out of a stone - the first 'decent' deal I got was in Jan 2009 when I managed to get a free Renoir on 18 months with 600/600 and unlimited web for £25/month (no 3G though).

I've used the usual tactic today and called the upgrade line twice and the cancellation line twice as well to try and get a Desire. Now I'm not making silly demands, but when I pointed out that through 3rd party websites I could get one from T-Mobile for free with 300/300 for 18month with unlimited web, you could just hear them shrugging - it was a case of "Ok then, bye!"

The only sense I got out of them was the last girl I just spoke to, who said the only way I could get a good deal out of O2 would be to go through a 3rd party website - she even pointed me to the website and deal! I asked her why they couldn't offer it directly and she couldn't really say.

I dunno. I do like O2, but they're so tight. I think I might just port over to T-Mobile. Hmm.. perhaps that's when they WILL give me proper offers, when I request my PAC. We shall see...

Well... are you a customer, or a profitable customer?

Good question - doesn't matter how long you're with them, if your typical monthly spend is only a little over your basic bill, you'll just be a customer, not a profitable one.

If you're on a high value tariff (£25 per month isn't), then you tend to get good deals. If you regularly make an extra £10-£20 of calls/data/texts/etc, then you're more likely to get a good upgrade deal.

And not sure if O2 do this, but on Orange it tends to be based on the last 3 months spend prior to your upgrade.

I'm never sure why people start these threads. If you can get a better deal elsewhere then go elsewhere. What can you hope to gain by posting on here?
