Panasonic DMR-BS850 or sky+ HD box?

I bought the panasonic, which has a HDD of 500GB, a blu-ray player, a blu ray recorder, freesat, and all the bells and whistles one could want. Personally, I bought it for the larger hard drive as sky+ only has 80GB, 40 of that being utilised by anytime tv. The engineer told me that a sky+ HD box has a 250GB HD and I don't have to subscribe to HD to be able to use the recording aspect. I'm not bothered about HD. I think 250GB will be big enough for my needs. So my question is: would I be as well getting the sky+ HD box from the engineer for £40 inc. installation and remote, or keeping this machine, as I don't really watch movies, or DVDs, and I already subscribe to sky?
Hope I've made myself clear. Thanks in advance for any replies.

AIUI, you still have to pay $ky to be able to use the recording facilities, even on a non-HD box, unless you subscribe.

I already pay, and will continue to pay, my subscription to sky. Freesat is not equal to sky's package. I know you can have the sky+ HD box without subscribing to HD. And my question is: if my only requirement is an enlarged HDD, surely the sky+ HD box would be preferable to my sky + box and cheaper than the panasonic?
