I think Talk Talk have finally taken on the guise of highwaymen, hijacking viewers channels and taking money from them! I shall explain the circumstances that have led me to want to drop this TV service.

On March 1, I turned on Sky Sports 1 on my Talk Talk box, and was confronted by a screen saying that if I wished to continue receiving Sky Sports, I would have to press OK to accept a half price deal. This message was repeated across the other Sky Sports channels. I had seen a similar screen in previous months when ESPN launched on Tiscali, offering a free month's viewing if I subscribed. I therefore assumed that I would receive a reduced period of Sky Sports, and so pressed OK. The channels then returned as before.

When my bank statement arrived in May, it showed that Talk Talk had charged me an extra £12.34 above the normal cost of my package.

I then checked back to my bill online, and found that I had been charged both full price and half price for Sky Sports for March.

I rang the Customer Care line, and explained the situation. A very nice lady went through the situation, and explained that a few people had reported this problem, it was being looked in to by their accounts people, and that I should check my next couple of bills to make sure that an adjustment had been made.

My May and June payments showed no adjustments, and I had become concerned, particularly given some of my friends previous dealings with the Carphone Warehouse when they owned Talk Talk.

I emailed Talk Talk Customer Enquiries to explain my concerns, and received this email:

Dear Mr. Rubery,

Thank you for contacting TalkTalk Customer Support.

I understand your query regarding the charges made on your account, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this issue has caused you.

Our records show that we are only charging you once per month for your TV- Sky Sports 1,2,3 & 4 package. Please be informed that the other charge for TV- Sky Sports 1,2,3 & 4 appearing on your April 2010 invoice is valid as it will not push through if it is not authorised.

In addition, there are no notes on our systems regarding the offered half price for the first three months, and please be informed that the TV- Sky Sports 1,2,3 & package has been activated since 09 May 2009.

I hope this clarifies the matter.

If you have further queries, please feel free to contact our Customer Care Department on 0871 222 3311. All calls from a TalkTalk phone package will be charged at 5p per minute at all times. Costs of calls from other providers and mobile phones will vary. Lines are open 8am-9pm seven days a week.

Kind regards,

Kathleen Robel
TalkTalk Customer Relations

So, I'm reading this that I had accepted an offer for half price Sky Sports, which they accept having made, but to which I was not entitled, and could not continue receiving the package I had paid for, unless I paid an extra half month.

I say again, this is highway robbery!
