T825 OAD now being broadcast

Yes, history in the making, the first ever OAD for the T825!

I've just downloaded it to my PC and there are actually two separate T825 firmware images being broadcast:

GordianT825UK005
GordianT825UK012

Both appear under the Vestel OUI (i.e. 0009DF hex) as one would expect.

Has anyone had any success in upgrading anything other than the Hitachi models listed on the DTG web site?

(I'm debating whether to try my Logik T825. This has been unused for two months since it decided to corrupt the hard disk. It won't do anything other than a reformat but since I have recordings on the disk I've been meaning to connect it up to a PC before reformatting it just to see if I could extract anything useful.)

Aha, so there are two separate OAD IDs after all - thanks for the info. The 005 will be for the HDR082/162 and the 012 will be for the HDR163/253 models. No other units will pick these up, unless you happen to have manually installed a Hitachi software build on a different brand.

I thought there would be a lot of different OAD IDs, but didn't realise it had gotten as high as 12. The Vestel UK brands like Digihome, etc, use OAD ID 002 for base configurations (no HDMI, LPM, etc), IIRC.

Is there any way to install Hitachi software on my Wharfedale, which has been doing the 3am search but not picked up anything (not that I expected it to)? ... so it's still stuttering away happily

Short answer is no . However, if you were to manually install a suitable old Hitachi build, you could get it to pick up the Hitachi OAD then. That said, I think you're better off waiting for an OAD for the Wharfedale as you'll have the "right" software then.

futaura, do you know if updates will definitely be broadcast for the other T825-based models?

I presume so, but I'm awaiting confirmation on this from Vestel seeing as the slots for the rest of this month have now been taken by other manufacters.

Ok, some more good news for you all... V13.0 OADs for all T825 models are scheduled to be completed by mid-July. Next up will be the OAD for the Sharp models, followed later by Wharfedale, Digihome and others. As with the recent Hitachi downloads, there may be more than one software build on the same OAD slot (for example, there were two different hardware versions of Wharfedale boxes).

Oh that is good news, Futaura. " Everything comes to s/he who waits" - or something like that... sometimes

Sharp TU-R162H & TU-R252H OAD now listed in the last slot for next week for 2nd-4th July. Which hopefully means Wharfedale updates the week of 5th-12th July.

Except... I hope the fact that I've got v10.8 (sent to me by Vestel, I forwarded it to you, F) won't mean it won't recognise me

The second T825 update is currently broadcasting. This time it is for Sharp branded PVRs (TUR 162H/252H according to the DTG web site). As with the previous Hitachi update there are two separate firmware images being broadcast. These are:

GordianT825UK010
GordianT825UK011

That's slightly strange - maybe there is more of a difference between the 162H and 252H than HDD size. Or maybe Sharp released two different versions under the same model numbers. Of course, with the Hitachi it was quite obvious as there were two different hardware configurations (ignoring HDD size) and different model numbers. We can expect at least 2 again for the Wharfedale updates.

Are you saving these OADs, BTW? Just wondering if they can be saved and sent via the serial port later if need be.

Is there a change log for the new firmware?

Hmmm... that is a bit of a worry - depends if the v10.8 did have a Wharfedale OAD id. That said, the Wharfedale models were relatively unique in their feature set, so probably it could only have been a Hitachi software, if not Wharfedale.

Anyway, you will find out soon. This coming Friday is apparently the turn of Wharfedale, Digihome, Technika and Techwood models to get the V13.0 update. It might include the Alba too - not sure if the Alba had a different OAD id to the Digihome, despite the boxes being identical in all but the name.

I expect we'll be able to get hold of it eventually, by hook or by crook

Can you get the software from the box and save it on your pc using a series link with hyperterm?

No - only the other way around. However, it is possible to save OADs on a PC if you have a TV tuner and appropriate software.

Well my Wharfedale DTR250 HDMI hasn't had an update yet, anyone else had any luck?

Neither has my Wharfedale DTR250 HDMI. See post in another thread here.. I assume like me you are doing a manual *Scan for update"? If you are relying on the Automatic Update feature that will not make the first attempt until 3am on Saturday morning.

Digihome DTR 160
Yes, I'm now on V.13.0---surprised my timers were all intact along with the library after upgrade.

Were you on Version 1.7 previously?

I wonder if it is desirable to do a First Time Installation (re-tune and default setting) after a software update as is recommended for some other makes of PVR?

This world of software updates for T825 PVRs is a new experience.

Yes--the upgrade took a long time (I don't know how long as I had to go out after 30 mins)

(It defaulted to FTI when I checked it on returning home )

Thanks for that info! I've just started a manual scan, say @ 1408hr, we'll see how long it takes.

Having said that, my Wharfedale has had v10.8 installed, Vestel sent it to me as a possible fix for extreme bugginess. As disussed earlier, maybe it won't be recognised

My Maplin refurb Alba DTR160 (Vestel T825) updated to 13.0 after a manual scan. It took about 50 minutes followed by an automatic reboot. All timers and recordings intact.
