Can cameras damage babies eyes?

I know the flash won't, but what about the focusing beam? They're pretty strong if you look directly at them.

nope - babies cant focus well anyway so the beam wouldnt focus on any particular part of the eye to damage it. anyway, they could never sell a piece of equipment like that if there was a risk

isnt the focus beam just some sort of red led or something? i mean i have accidentally flashed a camera on my eye by accident it bloody hurt, but i wouldnt have thought a red beam of light would do anything, i thought that beam of light was to reduce red eye or something anyways?

I think it's just an infra-red beam, low power too, no harm.

I presume the OP means a white light autofocus assist lamp, which definitely won't do anyone's sight any damage.

Saying that a flash won't is not the whole story though, obviously if used in the manner it was designed for it is perfectly safe but take care not to fire it too close to anyone's face, especially a baby.
