ok, so Rihanna will be back soon. With album number 5 right round the corner she is supposedly keeping the edge of Rated R, but also adding the Good Girl Gone Bad essence as well.

I think this is very promising from Miss Fenty!
Expectations?
Release date?

Rated R is her best album IMO. I absolutely love it, so i hope she really does keep it similar to that.

I really liked Rated R too.

It made sense for her, I think. It wouldn't have been 'right' for her to release another uptempo album full of hits. She clearly wasn't in that kind of place.

I think it just joins the list of albums popstars have made to break out of their norm and experiment a bit. Those type's of albums are often more interesting as a piece of work, but not more popular. Case in point; Bionic, Rated R, My December etc.

She's got it out of her system now, so she can return to the Rihanna people want...not the Rihanna she thinks people want. Don't think people were convinced by her creative/edgy 'artist' vibe, they want a pop princess with fun songs - hence the popularity of Rude Boy and not the others.

Judging by what has been said about the upcoming album, it sounds like they're trying to pull another GGGB with an album of hits, rather than an album with hits...if that makes sense?

I'm ignoring the 'IT WILL BE LIKE THRILLER' comments, because that was a stupid thing to say and never ends well.

Better than releasing a deluxe. Good on her.

I hope she keeps the tone of Rated R but mixing in a little Good Girl Gone Bad would be a good move. I think GGGB had some great standout hits but I think RR is just a much better album overall.

^I agree. There are certainly songs on GGGB that are great songs, but there are more songs on that that I skip than on RR.

Three of my favourite albums lol I love it when people release really personal albums, or albums that really, really wanted to make. Those three albums are Christina's, Rihanna's and Kelly's best albums respectively IMO. Although Stripped is right up there level with Bionic, as that was clearly a very private, personal album too.

Bionic? What on earth, it's so commercial?

Bionic is more mainstream than Stripped was. It comes across as if Xtina wanted to go personal, but was stopped and a lot of mainstream songs were put in their place. She's a happily married mother singing songs like WooHoo, doesn't come across as personal at all. You Lost Me as well, is hardly mirroring where she is in her life right now.

Whereas My December (I think Kelly's 2nd weakest album, miles behind Breakaway and All I Ever Wanted) and Rated R you can see where the artist is coming from with each track on the album.

Agreed. I think GGGB has a lot of filler and I usually only listen to the singles and skip the rest. Whereas RR feels more of a complete album. It doesn't really have many songs I can imagine being huge hits (which I think they have struggled to find singles on it) but it works as a whole. Similar to Kelly Clarkson's 'My December', in my opinion anyway.

I'm looking forward to this. I've loved every album on she's released so I'm sure it'll be the same with this one.

Rated R shocked me and still shocks me that it proved to be even better than GGGB. I love Rated R. Although i don;t believe Rihanna is a sexy vixen like her videos and the whole rated r era really proves her to be. I don't believe she would really wanna sing songs saying "come on rude boy, what can you get it up". Her last two albums are better then anything Beyonce, Ciara, Christina millian, Ashanti, Cassie, Keri Hilson and loads and loads of other r&b females have ever done. But that is my opinion. I know others will instantly stand up for beyonce but they have every right to if they happen to like her more.

I got rated r for xmas and wasnt particularly happy with it. It just wasn't her style at the time and gggb was so much better because that was her style. I just prefer the pop tracks to the slow ones and i didn't like the itea that russian roulette was the first single off her new album ether. Im looking forward to this though and hope it contrains better tracks than rated r

I said personal, or albums they really, really wanted to make. Bionic would fall into the latter category. But I do agree that it seems like she wanted to go personal (all the ballads suggest that) but somewhere along the lines things were changed. Just because she is married now, it doesn't mean You Lost Me can't be personal.

I do agree about the others though, but My December is my favourite Kelly album.

Agreed. Although I do think with a bit more effort, there are enough songs that are single worthy, especially with My December as the record company simply didn't put the effort in.

Wow, I really didnt know Rihanna was releasing a new album so soon after Rated R. Considering how long her team milked singles from Good Girl Gone Bad and how long Rated R seemed to take, I really wasnt expecting anything from her for at least another year.

Im glad that she's keeping the edginess of her last release though. When I first listened to it, I really wasnt sure at all, but it's grown on me so so much. It might even be my favourite album from 2009 now.

I agree to that its better than GGGB. I think there are more standout moments on GGGB, but a lot of the album is complete filler. Rated R doesnt have as many major moments - but at the same time, its a better collection of tracks that work together.

My only concern is that the last album was only a year away, and this one will suffer as a result. Rated R is a perfect example of how some time away can totally change your perspective on life and your music accordingly. Its only been a year since her last album - I hope it doesnt become a "more of the same" type thing.

this was my thought. Though quite a few songs have been released from Rated R.

Rockstar 101
Te Amo
Russian Roulette
Rude Boy
Hard
Wait Your Turn (Not officially, I know)

I was expecting a deluxe album. I'm glad she's not doing that. It's the reason I waited until she moved onto Rated R before buying GGGB.

I can't see their being another album so soon. Rated r may not have sold 7 million copies like Good Girl but it hasn't bombed. Rude Boy and Russian Roulette are already among Rihanna's signiature songs. Why move onto another era so soon? I reckon there will be a re-release. She stil hasn't toured this album around the world yet? She will do a lady gaga and keep this era going till next year.

Rihanna is already in the studio, doing a NEW album. she said in an interview that shedidnt enjoy how long GGGB dragged on and wanted too keep it all fresh. i expect that she will have a break after this new album though.

I think the reason she is releasing another album so soon is because she wants to show she has moved on from the place she was in while making Rated R. I am really glad she had the chance to release such a personal album like RR but I do think that Te Amo (or possibly Rockstar 101) will be the last singles from it and she will then move on to a new era.

Although I really like RR I actually prefer GGGB to listen to, I love that album! There are honestly no songs I skip, I like them all!

I think the US leg starts next month? And finishes around mid August I think so...she could release a new album around late autumn time, maybe November. I did hear a rumour she was doing the LGOE tour in Australia but I'm not sure if that's true.

And I think the article which claimed the new album would be like Thriller just meant it in the sense that they were aiming for no filler, not that they were expecting it to be that successful!

Im just looking forward to what Rihanna does next in terms of her music.

Rated R REALLY surprised me, ive been more of a fan of her singles than her albums but RR really showed me shes become a proper artist and shes earned her place as one of the best pop/rnb artists at the moment.

Go Ri Ri!!
