If anyone has any ideas of new HD Channels, heard and rumours of new HD Channels or really has a realistic wish list of new channels to launch on Sky.

Mine are

FILM 4 HD
FIVER HD, FIVE USA HD,
MORE 4 HD
ESPN 2 HD
SKY SPORTS 5HD
S4C HD, STVHD, UTVHD,
ALIBI HD
E! HD
DISCOVERY REALTIME HD
TRAVEL CHANNEL HD
A PROPER HD MUSIC VIDEO CHANNEL
Film4 HD would be nice on Sky as it is currently exclusive to Virgin.

Out of the rest only More4 HD would be of interest to me.

I thought this was a sticky thread so people could see new channels at a glance, not see peoples fantasy lists, defeats the object, surely?

Hi Zodac,

Is this your "wish list" or an actual list in working progress by Sky?

I don't see RTÉ or any of the CBS channels starting in HD anytime soon

Ginx TV (videogames channel) is due to start at the end of this month - they are planning an HD version, but it is unconfirmed if it will appear at launch.

That is - of course - my wishlist.
And RTÉ HD would be - of course - only available in the Republic of Ireland and maybe Northern Ireland.

Channels I would love to see are:

Sky3HD
BravoHD (Yes I know it's going but meh )
DaveHD

Channels I think we *might* see in 2011:

Sky2HD (Possible new home for content when Bravo and Channel 1 close?)

E!HD
Cartoon networkHD
Animal PlanetHD
Disney ChannelHD (Pretty shocked it's not out already TBH)
DMAXHD
WatchHD
AlibiHD
BlightyHD

Possible channels:

Film4HD
More4HD
GoldHD? (I know...but they did the same with ITV3HD)

Channels I don't think we'll see:

FiverHD/FiveusaHD (Five probaly can't fund them)

BBC2HD - People have talked of this I don't see it coming off, BBCHD seem to be doing well as it is.

CBS channels in HD - I just can't see this coming off.

There is a DS member that has been posting unsubstantiated claims about Travel Channel HD launching, so I emailed them to get some actual information,

They replied :

"Thank you for your recent message to Travel Channel. We are in ongoing talks with TV operators abd we hope Travel Channel HD will be available in the UK in the future. Travel Channel in SD is currently available on Sky (channel 251) in the UK

Warm Regards,

Tess
"

Doesn't tell us much, but that's the company's official stance at the moment.

CBS Action HD and CBS Drama HD were granted Ofcom licences today so should be launching sometime soon.

RTÉ are not going to launch a seperate 'best of' HD service, but instead turn RTÉ TWO into RTÉ TWO HD and have it as a HD only channel. On DTT in ROI, there is no SD version of RTÉ TWO, only RTÉ TWO HD and it plans to do the same for satellite too.

Will RTE TWO HD be available in Northern Ireland?

RTÉ plan to have all the DTT channels converted to HD soon after switchover so there will be no SD services on DTT, all MPEG4 HD only. All STB's for the ROI DTT service will be able to output via HDMI for those with HDTV's and also by SCART for those that don't so everyone can still watch even if they don't have a HDTV.

When RTÉ TWO HD launches on satellite to replace RTÉ TWO, it will still be available as it is now to NI viewers, however programmes such as sport may still be blocked as it is currently, so investing in an aerial to get RTÉ DTT might be an idea, especialy as the signal is being boosted with no NI restrictions in 2012. You'l get RTÉ ONE, RTÉ TWO, TV 3, TG 4, 3e, "RTÉ News", "RTÉ Jr" and "RTÉ Plus" for free along with a load of Irish radio stations.

Well, if you pop along to the Ofcom website and look at the licences page yourself, they're there for all to see, but just in case....

CBS Action HD: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/tvlicensing/cs/987.htm

CBS Drama HD: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/tvlicensing/cs/1124.htm

.
Seems a very sensible approach. Pity our politicians would be way too timid to try something like that .
