I agree with both of your Posts, I also think that now is the right time to start to shut down the SD channels and replace them all with HD equivalents,
as it will take some years for all of them to change formats

It will be a long time before any SD channels are shut down in favour of HD equivalents as there are still far too many people with SD only equipment at the moment.
Look how long it took them to shut down the black and white 405 line transmissions!
What will happen is that more and more channels will go over to being originated in HD, and down-converted feeds will be transmitted for the SD only viewers.
The only fly in that ointment is for channels that will still be transmitting a lot of legacy SD material, where up-converting to HD and then down-converting again is obviously not desirable.

That's true Dave-H but also remember how quickly Sky Analogue was switched off and how everyone was switched to digital

I will be really glad to see Watch HD appearing, but WHY isn't SKY2 in HD yet?? Surely there is a demand

Also I know this might sound very silly, but is there any chance we'll ever see +1hr in HD? You know like "Syfy+1 HD", again it is a silly question

ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD will not be free for a long time, as ITV have put them behind a Paywall with Sky for a contract length of time, how long I do not know,
I do not know the terms of the contract sorry

Well knowing that you guys agree on the idea makes me feel better.
Would be a good idea I think, can't see why not to go +HD

And does anyone actually know when (if ever) Sky will be launching Sky2HD ??
I was watching months ago when that voiceover was heard "This is Sky 2 HD".

As far as I know there is still a chance of there being a Sky2HD perhaps it might launch later in the Autumn. As for your suggestion of HD+1 channels I can't really see the need for them. I think there are already enough of them in SD

Autumn launch sounds good, hope it's true

And you make a good point, but they do come in handy

Seems so long ago since the flash 2 second Sky Two HD ad, maybe that was put back when Sky Atlantic came along?

Dave HD & Watch HD will be launching next month, October 2011.

Alibi HD to follow in 2012.

2 more HD channels coming soon.

That's 8 HD Channels between Ch 106-114

106 - Sky1 HD
107 - Sky Living HD
108 - Sky Atlantic HD
109 - WATCH HD

110 - GOLD
111 - DAVE HD
112 - Comedy Cen HD
113 - Universal HD
114 - Syfy HD

With 59 channels currently within the HD channel section this will increase to 61.
Another milestone for Sky.

Any further input and knowledge on this would be appreciative.

Regards,

Dan.

Shouldn't that be "excluding BBC One, BBC Two, ITV 1, Channel 4, Channel 5, and Gold? None of them are in HD in the lower 20 channels. (And, yes, before some idiot makes the obvious point that 4, 5, and ITV 1 are available in the "upper numbers", that's not what the preceding poster said.)
