With the announcement of 4Seven (C4 catch-up channel), I wonder if the More4 +2 channel that is due to launch on the 26th March is in fact a placeholder name for More4 HD?
Any ideas/info?

It's worth noting that BBC Olympic 1 - 24 will be launching in HD in the Sports section of the EPG in time for the games (24 channels), as well in SD.

In addition, Sky 3D will be made available to all those with the HD subscription for the duration of the Olympic games, to facilitate Eurosport's 3D coverage.

More 4 + 2 arrived on the EPG today at 269.

Clearly not going to stay that way and I would rather it be the long promised (but undelivered) More 4 HD that is imminent than the mooted 4 Seven. Unless that is an HD version. Otherwise it diminishes yet again the HD programming repeats available as one assumes some of the things being repeated on 4 Seven will have been originally shown in HD.

Anyone heard any whispers about any new HD channels? I really thought Film 4 HD would have been on Sky by now. I guess Alibi could be next on the radar?

I would guess that new channels are on hold until after the Olympics, when the 24 HD Olympic channels cease there will be plenty of bandwidth available for new HD channels

Ideally Channel 4 will launch

More4HD
4Seven HD
Film 4HD

May push Channel 5 into HD versions of 5 USA & 5*

Hope the situation with 5th Freeview HD station is sorted soon also, if this is a newly created channel this channel will no doubt be available on Sky.
I'm hoping for BBC HD to be retained
alongside BBC One HD & if we ever get it, BBC Two HD.

Is it not still the case that BBC HD will be replaced by an HD simulcast of BBC Two?

As far as I know BBCHD is indeed being replaced by BBC TwoHD and it may happen after the Olympics are over.

Agreed, I'm just wondering if channels in general are waiting for the July reshuffle to take place before launching. In terms of getting a higher EPG number, especailly in those genre's were most channels have opted to stay on their current EPG numbers. For example, 'Star Plus HD' launching before the reshuffle would get the next available number (currently 853) at the end of the 'International' genre. But launching after the reshuffle could see them placed higher up the EPG on EPG number 794.

QVC HD to launch in September - Broadcast.

Here's the detail.

Shopping channel QVC has moved into a new £35m studio as it prepares to broadcast in HD and launch two new 24-hour channels later this year.

QVC will have access to two main studios at its new broadcasting base in Chiswick, which is also home to broadcasters Discovery and Disney. It has operated out of its former base in Battersea’s Marco Polo House since 1993, using a single studio with a small ancillary space.

QVC is currently running both bases in parallel but plans to introduce new sets once it starts broadcasting from its new home on 7 June. It plans to move away from the domestic home-style backdrop to a series of “retail presentation areas” that make use of the curvature of the building rather than square walls.

The 500-strong business will also begin broadcasting in HD in September, followed by the launch of two new 24-hour channels that will sit alongside the original service and QVC Beauty on Sky. Content plans for the new channels are still being shaped.

I really don't see how FILM4HD would be a rival to Sky Movies. The former has different films for the most part, the more mainstream films are usually on C4 at some point and unlike Sky the channel is not advert free.

If anything the channel could serve as a platform for HD movies and in my opinion would be no threat to Sky Movie's subscriber base.

It is a personal source of frustration because Sunday (C4 premieres) is a bad night for me to record (avid sports fan).

Rant over
