When will all of the SD channels be knock off Sky so we can have more HD channels?
And Sky can become just for HD channels like Sky Atlantic HD and Sky Atlantic + HD for example

the number of SD channels has nothing to do with the amount of HD channels.

besides, i'm sure the number of non-HD sky customers would have something to say about it. HD customers are around 10% of the total number of Sky customers.

what makes you think Sky has anything to do with it?
it'll be up to the owners of the channel to decide if they wish to re-launch their HD channel.
Sky takes the credit and advertise all HD channels on their platform to market and sell their product .

They are not marketing just their own HD channels, they are marketing and charging all HD channels, 60+,that is.

I am not paying to BIO, I am paying to Sky that can then answer when those channels disappear.

For a start when Sky give us a free replacement larger hdd box and we no longer sometimes need to record in SD as there is so little space on the original HD box to record all from the HD versions .

As I doubt this is going to happen and they are waiting for us to simply buy a newer larger hdd box then SD channels will need to still be accessible to HD viewers with this same issue (and I am sure we are far from the only early HD viewer still with the smaller boxes).

Not sure that they should give you a box with a larger hdd for free.

My car has a less efficient engine than the new model but I don't expect a new car just because I can't go as far on a tank of diesel.

Sky had an offer on last year whereby you could get a 1TB box for £49 if you took multiroom.

It was well publicised that you could be a MR customer, give your 31 day's notice then ring up for the deal when your MR sub has expired. £49 for a 1TB Is as good as giving them away.

SKY1+1HD coming November

1st HD +1 channel ?

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1738911

What do people think of this?
I think it's a good progressive move but there will be people saying lets got more HD simulcasts 1st before having a +1 like Sky 2 or Challenge or an extra movie or Sports channel.

I would prefer a 5th HD Sports channel personally before a deluge of +1HD's

I took that from a Tweet by Sky1 boss Stuart Murphy. I wouldn't be surprised he got it wrong as they call the channel Sky1 HD by default.

it could just be Sky1+1 (ie SD version).
they did recently add Atlantic +1, and Sky1 is now the only showcase channel they have with no +1.

Sky2 HD should be a priority over Sky1 +1 HD, surely?

The questions need to asked about this are all about priorities.

How many of Sky's channels are not HD? Why?

Why do we have only 1 3D channel?

Why not more Red Button HD or more HD channels in certain areas? (Sport/Movies)

if you don't count the +1's then all of them are HD

Why do we have only 1 3D channel?
because there currently isn't enough content to warrant more than one.

Why not more Red Button HD or more HD channels in certain areas? (Sport/Movies)
such as? every sky channel has an HD version
you'll say there is a need for a 5th sports channel, i would say where's the evidence for such a need?

I'd like to see HD red button streams. Also, Sky2 isn't HD chenks.

i should have said all the "showcase" channels.

Sky2 is just a repeat channel.
Livingit is also just repeats ?

I suppose you could say that but Sky surely can afford to make all of their channels HD, even the +1s. There's plenty of transponder space, they have plenty of cash and I'm sure they get discounts when renting them anyway.

Why not go 100% HD and really back up the "home of HD" slogan? They don't even need EPG numbers due to their HD/SD EPG swap thing. (Which IMO is kinda stupid, why not just replace the SD channels with HD ones on the EPG of HD boxes?)

Not going to happen, or at least not in the near future, broadcasters aren't going to want to sacrifice their SD EPG slots.

Also, from a Sky subscribers point of view, SD channels are very much useful for recording purposes.

What? They would keep their better slots and lose the worse ones.

But why would a broadcaster wan't to lose any slot?, SD slots are very valuable with the SD launch queue being closed, even the EPG slots with the worst positions are still of value.

what??
all the movie channels have HD versions, and they are clearly showcase channels.

Sky2 doesn't have any of its own content.

Any update on Film4 and More4? Apparently 4OD is due Spring 2013. All three were announced at the same time but surely the channels can launch before the on demand service.

They were supposed to be on Astra 1N?

I know we certainly don't have confirmed dates or anything as certain as that yet, but I was wondering if anyone has heard any rumours of Discovery making any more of their channels HD? From their website, they have:

Discovery (already in HD)
Animal Planet (already in HD)
DMAX
Discovery History
Discovery Science
Discovery Turbo
Discovery Shed
Discovery RealTime
Discovery Home&Health
Discovery Travel&Living
ID

Do we think any of the non-HD channels will go HD eventually? I know some will most likely show programmes that aren't available in HD, but at least some of the programmes probably have HD versions that would be available to Discovery.

----

In fact, as I just finished typing the above, I got a reply from Discovery (very quick it was too, only sent the email a few minutes ago!)

"It's being discussed but it is too early to say at this moment"

So it seems like there may be at least tentative plans to launch more Discovery Network HD channels in the future

Radio Times in HD - at last we will be able to read what is on during daytime since their pathetic 'upgrade' two years ago.

Only kidding (about what RT HD is, not Radio Times)
