As part of a renewed carriage deal with Sky, Star have announced plans to launch HD versions of its existing channels (presumably Star Life OK and Star Gold only as majority of content from the new Star Jalsha is filmed in SD). This could also mean the the UK are first to get a HD variant of Star Life OK.

Elsewhere, Star are looking into on demand content to be launched on sky.

If this happens it will be good to see the HD section become more multicultural

There have always been "Sketchy Plans" for a second Star HD channels, but seems like we will be getting a third swell.

I have a question about the Asian channels on Sky, it seems that they all with the exception of Star Plus (HD) and UMP Stars broadcast in 4:3 now is this how the show is supposed to be viewed or is this just the channel broadcasting wrong, because movies on these channels are also broadcast in 4:3, that cant be right can it.

An example would be SAB TV's new show Jeannie aur Juju whose uploads on YouTube (by SAB TV) are displayed in 4:3 so is this how all Indian soaps are meant to be watched?

Majority of programs on mainstreem channels - sony, star, zee and colors are made in HD, however not all of the channel profiles in India are HD. Ideally it should be 16:9. Star have plans to make their channels 16:9 soon - most probably in coalition with the HD launch. I guess its like american channels where they still broadcasted in 4:3 until there HD variant launched.

Bit of a wide question put like that?

In simple terms it almost certainly will come but as to when noone knows. UKTV has gradually extended its HD portfolio from Good Food and Eden through Watch and Alibi. They may well add a couple more HD channels this year, in which event Really would be a likely choice.

We will just have to wait for their next announcement. Have you tried contacting them.

Is this a joke or a regional version of ITV1HD?

Ahhh could be rebrand from ITV 1 to ITV

Not really, it's just a re-brand, still the same channel.

It's a re-branded channel re-branded if you follow.

ITV to ITV 1 then back to ITV.

Why did they bother

So everything but BBC 1 HD England!

More hours of staring at a red circle test card as we can't have one bloody news programme that covers our country whilst everyone else can!

Well done BBC! Another magnificent cock up from start to finish that you are experts at.

BBC1 England is split up into different regions. Scotland, Wales and NI have one local news programme for the whole country.

If you look at the size of the population of England, you will see why there isn't one news programme for all of England, regional news shows are still very important.

Regional news should move to the new local stations. That solves the BBC One England HD problem.

I thought there were only the 4 country regions for different programming (non-news)?

No there are other shows such as Inside Out, Super Legue Show, Late Kick Off, etc.

Also the local TV stations are only for a few of the most populous areas, so not everywhere is getting a new local tv station, plus these are nothing to do with the BBC, so regional news will remain on BBC1.

But why can't BBC One HD show the London news (as ITV do)?

Better than a test card surely.
