Surely with Virgin media now being owned by a major amaerican force and rapidly expanding thier HD to include 40plus channels with no extra fee, Sky cannot justify charging an extra £10 a month for 60 to 70 HD channels

There must be a reduction in the cost or just include in their standard charges

4.5m people subscribe to HD so they won't be dropping it anytime soon!

Should this not be a new thread or it defeats the purpose of having a thread specifically to announce new Sky Channels.

It is an interesting argument but should be elsewhere in this forum.

There are currently 5 HD labels at 11.469H - 1421 to 1425. The above suggests that they are to become HD red button sports services for Football First, Champions League etc etc. If it means NFL Redzone will be available in HD next season i'll be happy.

Nice, it's about time they made some permanent HD red button channels (they've been seen occasionally, e.g. during the Ryder Cup).

Only problem I have now is figuring out which red button channel is which with their generic labels lol.

Why is it that Virgin don't charge for their vastly inferior HD collection but somehow I would pay more than I pay now for Sky?

Presumably to accommodate Sky Movies Oscars to which channel 303 has now been renamed.

So what's the next channel to go HD? I haven't heard any whispers about QVC HD which was meant to be September last year, or Film 4 I guess.

I am getting so not excited about QVC HD of all the channels I want to see in HD that would be well near the end of the list.

I think that Film 4 HD is exclusive to Virgin Media, so I don't think it will be on Sky any time soon.

It's also about fps too. I don't know for sure, but from the looks of it, Sky Sports and Sky Movies seems to be in 60fps+ when compared with other channels. This is because when watching fast moving action like football, it seems to be alot smoother than on itv hd or BBC 1 HD.

Well you'd be wrong as Channel 4 have already announced that Film 4 HD will arrive this year on Sky.

It was exclusive to Virgin Media but that was only for a finite amount of time, which now appears to have lapsed as C4 have announced FilmFour HD will launch on Sky this year..

I think the Virgin exclusivity was for around two years or possibly less

So I'm guessing then that this is just basically HD red button.

Hopefully all recordable so I won't miss HD quality Spurs on football first nor Juventus on a red button HD stream of champions Lge in group stages.

Perfect news about time but more than welcome.

Thanks Sky

Essentially, and if my assumption is correct, then yes.

I suspect if these are HD red button options they are primarily intended initially for this year's F1 races the first of which is on 15 to 17 March (can't be a coincidence that this is immediately afyer BARB reporting starts for the 5 new Active channels?). It could be that they will simply be used for that purpose (although I hope not) and that HD versions of other red button services will be waiting until a later date. We shall see.

Seems a bit of an opscure channel to make HD, is this possibly a watershed for HD in Britain after 7 years?
Do we have a rough date?
