We have had Disney Junior HD for ages in France, come on sky pull your finger out
Actually Peter you should have said, "Come on Disney, pull your finger out", It's Disney's channel, it's up to them if they go HD or not.

What i can't fathom is why some channels haven't gone HD. Obviously Racing UK would require complete HD infrastructure but a channel like Premier Sports which simply takes outside feeds have no good reason; especially when being in sd only is costing them subscriptions.

I imagine apart from having to pay more to acquire the HD feed, it costs a lot more to broadcast the said HD programme.

Just to confirm in here info announced elsewhere.

BBC HD closes on Tue 26 March and becomes BBC 2 HD simulcast from 6 am.

BBC 1 HD on Sky moves to channel 141 on the EPG (ex 143).

BBC 2 HD will be on channel 142 on the EPG (ex 169).

Where the HD programming from BBC 3/4 will go is another matter. Nowhere it seems unless repeated on BBC 1 or 2.

But in lieu of having HD on 101/102 (not allowed) putting these two together in the EPG at 141/142 is a neat move by the beeb.

BBC Alba moving to 143 (just to nip the fantasy EPG'ers in the bud).

141 and 142 already belong to BBC and were used for BBCNI channels in ROI. they will move to 168 (which was BBC Alba) and 169 most likely.

Apparently BBC 3 and 4 HD content will be on iplayer, so we actually might be better off as many BBC 3 and 4 programmes are produced in HD but only shown in SD as on the BBC HD channel has been prioritising BBC2 content.

Sounds good in theory - but - will the BBC in future even buy HD rights for shows only airing on 3 and 4?

Parks and Recreation has not been shown in HD on BBC HD or catch up and that suggests they only have SD rights when it certainly could have been screened in HD.

How about
2am-5am BBC One HD Shows HD repeats of BBC Three
2am-5am BBC Two HD Shows HD repeats of BBC Four

All available in HD on all catch-up players.

Is this something that makes sense?

It'd make a lot of sense. Doesn't mean it'll happen.

Will positions 168 and 169 be reserved for the future launch of BBC Three HD and BBC Four HD? Could not Sky give some incentive for these channel to come to air, or will the 'Platform Neutral' stance scupper any possibility of this?

Well that's pretty much what was promised around the time of the DQF document.

However, it is disappointing that after all this time it seems they have still not come to any decisions . From the recent blog by the Director of Distribution:

"I can assure you that we have some brilliant minds working on the tricky question of how to find an affordable way to broadcast HD programmes that are scheduled on BBC Three, BBC Four, CBeebies and CBBC.".

Why it is taking these brilliant minds so long to come up with with something when their own solution was set out almost two years ago is beyond my simple mind I am afraid .

They want to pay someone the exact amount of money it would cost to launch another HD station on all platforms, just because they want to give a substandard service because they can and will get away with it.

BBC is a money pit for taxpayers and a haven of luxury for those within it confines.

Sickness!

Sky will most likely shuffle their channels around, with perhaps TLC SD and one of their +1's moving down the guide to EPG positions 238 & 239 (if nothing launches before TLC gets added).

I guess that's no longer included in the Movies Pack and is only in the Entertainment Extra Pack?

Not that I've heard,
but given that every man and his dog are now launching HD channels,
nothing would surprise me.
However it is really down to two criteria
1. as always, Money.
2. Content.

Keep up to date with what is going on in the Satellite world
Have a look at this

Can we assume that H2 will be launching in HD tomorrow as Sky's EPG at 531 for Military shows a lot of programming being in HD from tomorrow? (H2 is replacing Military for those who didn't know).

Military are showing HD programs today, but its not saying its a HD channel and there is no SD simulcast?
