BBC Three HD placeholder

mentioned on the Freeview forum it's on 105 on Freeview

will Sky have a Placeholder???

Shame EPG numbers are not synced on different platforms such as

Freeview, Freesat, Sky, Virgin, BTTV, YouView etc
..
Thats exactly what I would like to see, with all UK EPGs across all platforms controlled and numbered by a central organisation that tells all platforms where certain channels could be!
Sure there would be lots of gaps on freeview and freesat ect, but that would just have to be the way of it.
Also boxes that could do LNCs from 000-099 would have to use those channels for radio channels and default the main starting channel to 101 as BBC 1! If the box couldnt do LNCs from 000-099 then if the box could do a separate section for radio then thats what it would do.

One very major problem with using single and double figure channel numbers when there are way more than one hundred channels available is getting the waiting delay right - i.e. the wait required to see if another number is input before acting on those already input. I have a couple of sat receivers that have got this badly wrong (too short) and unless you are a very adept "phone text inputter" it is almost impossible to get 3 or 4 figure channels by direct number input. This I believe is the reason most platforms with larger numbers of channels use only 3 figure channel numbers - no need to get the waiting delay right.

Well thats why Im suggesting that all platforms start TV channels at LNC 101 and that they are all set out by say a dept of OFFCOM so no platforms have control over LNC positions.
It would be the fairest, as all channels would apply to the dept that assigns LNC numbers and then when they get onto a new platform they just appear at the same number that they are on the other platforms they are already on.
for example Discovery channel gets given 520 as it is on Sky at the moment, well then it gets that LNC on virgin and on YouView automatically.
The individual platforms would have no control over this, they would have to just charge a set price to broadcasters to appear on their platform.
This would ensure that PSB channels and new channel set to be PSBs would get given an LNC that is higher than non PSBs on all platforms automatically. The way that would work is that if a new channel became a PSB channel (like if ITV HD, CH4 HD and CH5 HD were finally given PSB status (like they should be)), then they would be guaranteed a higher LNC than non PSBs, also if the BBC launched a new channel (like they plan to launch BBC 1 +1), then that would automatically go at a higher position than all non PSB channels.
I see this as a fair way to assign LNCs to all TV channels in the UK, it would benefit all viewers in the UK as it would be clearer for everyone.

Any chance Channel 5 can do a deal with Sky to do ALL of their stations in HD?

Similar to the deal previously with ITV2/3/4 in HD.

We could then have
Channel 5 HD,
5 USA HD,
5* HD &
5 Later HD

When 4seven HD is launched &
BBC Three/Four/CBeebies/CBBC

All terrestrial broadcasters will have their main channels available in HD.

Time for HD on catch-up then!!!!!

Just thought I'd put it out there that UTV HD launched on Sky on 4th November. As no one mentioned it yet I presume there's not too many from NI that have read this thread.

In a surprising move it has replaced the SD version of UTV for HD subscribers and appears on channel 103 in the EPG...

As far as I now they are staying where they are and the reason that from tomorrow BBC One NI HD will be on 101 for Northern Ireland HD viewers is because UTVHD is on EPG channel number 103 in Northern Ireland.

This is good news about BBC1 NI HD. I presume the SD version will go to 141 then?

If only CH4 HD and CH5 HD would go to 104 and 105 respectively. Makes so much more sense...

The HD versions of Channel 4 and Channel 5 only carry London adverts so this could only happen in London.

the only one of the 4 PSB broadcasters not to do HD catchup on Sky is ITV, as C4, C5 and BBC already do HD catchup on Sky iplayers
