Surely with the increasing amount of comedies we have in HD now it will not be to long until we have Gold HD, I don't see it coming this year but next year?.
Apart from that Fox News is in HD in America so why not over here as sometimes on the miniature graphics you see Fox HD, also aren't we expecting CNNi HD at some point?.
Other than that unless we have any surprises I wonder when we will have more HD channels.

I am rather surprised about the lack of Fox News HD in the UK yes. The SD channel PQ is appalling.
CNNi HD is supposed to be coming this year but they keep changing the projection dates so your guess is as good as mine!
GOLD HD has been needed for yonks and never come, so don't hold your breath
I would have thought UKTV would make Really the next to have an HD varient, given they are showing newly aquired US programming.

With it being encrypted, I wonder if you can watch it with a Sky subscription even outside of London?
Wow. I honestly can't believe that a fledgling channel who will want maximum exposure would shun Freesat. Surely Sky wouldn't be paying them anything, why would they?
What nonsense. The narrow-beam transponder is good enough protection for every other major broadcaster, why wouldn't it be for a local channel?
To be honest I hope these local channels crash and burn, can't see any use for them at all. Doubt they will though; being an idea of the government I'm sure they'll subsidise them so they can't fail.

Wow what a load of bollocks. The narrow beam would be more than good enough. if it is for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and so on, what does a local tv channel think it is? Sky Sports or something!!
Its stupidity like this that makes them deserve to die on their arses. Freesat is not a platform to be ignored.
I suppose their thinking is that with Sky they can have soft encryption so that the transmission will be freely viewable to anyone with a Sky box (theoretically just the UK) but not a generic satellite receiver or Freesat box.

Hardly nonsense but economic sense - rights fees for FTV satellite transmission can be considerably less than those for FTA broadcast. Content providers have realised that the so-called UK footprints of satellites at 28 E are not as restrictive as they would like and are receivable across half of Spain, half of Germany and most of France (and all the countries in between) with moderately sized dishes (up to 1m). So unless UK broadcasters switch to Ka band and tightly focussed satellites (as per Saorsat) then this is going to be a sticking point for minor broadcasters for years to come.
They've bought programmes from the likes of BBC and C4. Have they bought UK rights, or London rights? It may be the latter, in which case encryption on satellite may be necessary.
If this is a local TV channel isnt it supposed to be a PSB of some kind? If so then it needs to be available to freesat viewers! Or dich Dsat altogether, but that might not be allowed ether I dont know?

London Live will air on Freeview channel 8, available to Freeview and YouView viewers within range of transmitters at Crystal Palace and Croydon. Sky subscribers in the London region will see the channel on 117, while Virgin Media viewers in the capital will be able to watch on channel 159.
So it looks like it's not a UK wide channel, just for Londoners.

If it's for Sky subscribers in the London region (and the fact that it's not on Freesat), I doubt it.
If they are going by postcode, I wonder how far out they'll go. Just the N S W E postcodes, or will they go further out (TW etc - which is also served by Crystal Palace)?
^ How can they restrict the satellite broadcast to a small local area? There are no 'micro beams' as far as I know, therefore I'm sure it'll be available outside London on 'other channels'. It's like BBC 1 East appearing on EPG channel 1 if you're in the Cambridge area, yet still being available elsewhere in the country on a different part of the EPG.

I'm pretty sure Sky can specify which postcodes can receive a certain channel in the Sky package, or have them broadcast on non-standard frequencies that cannot be added manually.
You cannot add BBC One Scotland HD, or STV HD for example.

But that's because sky boxes can't manually tune into DVB-S2 channels.

I just checked and the Scottish HD channels mentioned above are definitely transmitted in the clear and can be received on Freesat boxes when out of the target TX area.
Therefore my point remains and I would expect the local London channel to be available outside London on the Sky box's 'other channels' setting. Whether it's worth bothering is another matter.

If its on a DVB-S1 transponder it can be added manually, also freesat or other FTA sat boxes can add all DVB-S1 and S2 transponders at 28 degrees east, only encryption will stop them being tuned under those circumstances!
