But there again, if you could programme your own Sky box to put channels where you want them, we could all have the EPG we ALL want. Just like I do with the Freeview EPG on my new TV, ie.

1 - BBC1HD,
2 - BBC2HD,
3 - ITVHD
4 - C4HD
5 - C5
6 - BBC3HD
7 - BBC4HD
8 - ITV2
9 - ITV3
10 - ITV4
11 - ITV+1
12 - ITV2+1
13 - ITV3+1
etc, etc.

Just the way I want them.
I agree I like that order, except that on a Sky box with HD, if you could reorder them the first ten you mentioned would be HD!

The talk seems to mainly come from a daily mail article though, that is quoting something that Tony Hall said, but they seem to have taken it out of proportion.
Why would the BBC have opened two channels in HD only to close one a very short time later!
The whole thing doesn't really make sense!

No. I'm suggesting that Sky should allow their boxes to be programmed so that each subscriber can put the channels in whatever order they want. It would in no way affect the way Sky put out their original EPG, just like the standard Freeview EPG remains the same no matter how I organise my own personal EPG.

Thats why I actually said this would would be good:

What would be better is for say all SD HD and +1s ect to be under one LCN

so for example

101 BBC 1 SD (your region)
----- BBC 1 HD (You nation and English region when launched)
----- BBC 1 + 1 (when it launches
102 BBC 2 SD (your nation)
------ BBC 2 HD
------ (BBC 2 + 1 (if they decide to launch one))
103 ITV SD (your region)
------ ITV HD (your closest region)
------ ITV +1 (your closest region)
104 Channel 4 SD (your region)
------ Channel 4 HD
------ Channel 4 + 1(your region)
105 Channel 5 SD (your region)
------ Channel 5 HD
------ Channel 5 + 1
and so on and so forth...

This would make things a lot cleaner and seeing as the SD and HD channels carry the exact same programs there is only one set of info in the EPG and the +1 just time slips the info in the EPG software, meaning only one version of the info gets sent to the box.

It would also clean up the EPG too, Sky could still charge per channel to be on the EPG so they dont loose out and on SD boxes the HD channel just wouldn't exist.

The old HD and +1 slots wouldnt exist and channels could be pushed up the EPG in a shuffle up, also the HD swap would be redundant.
I think it would still be within current laws and channels like Sky 1 wouldnt loose their EPG slots on Sky!

The only option I would really like is the ability to change the font / size of the subtitles.

They are very distracting and take up a lot of space on the screen.

On subtitles I would like them to support DVB subtitles ..... Rather than rendering them in the stb from teletext ... Even on HD .. Which is why you have such chunky titles now...

Or if they are not wanting the broadcaster to determine the look and feel of the subtitles
Then look to dropping teletext and going to an EBU TT D feed.

Arise News HD would be the benchmark. How long did that last?

According to my information, launched on Sky EPG on the 11/03/13, removed from Sky EPG on the 08/08/13.

So BBC Three HD needs to survive until Saturday 10 May to beat that record of 150 days

Given that it has to get past the BBC Trust and then be implemented if approved it should just make it....

Is this really an issue? It'll still be on the BBC i-Player/On Demand system - just access the shows you want to see from there.

There are still a lot of people who cannot use iPlayer and On Demand because of low broadband speeds.

Despite the best part of half a billion pounds being taken from the LF to charter renewal ...
Also note that BBC 3 will be emitted up to September 2015 ,,,

Yes and BT still charge a bomb to get a fibre line of any sort even FTTC! I know there are many other providers but they all run off BTs network unless its Virgin!
FTTC should be becoming the base standard by now, but its still just on the cuff of being more premium!
If only money could be found to replace the whole of the UKs copper phone lines with direct fibre to all homes! Then internet speeds could be really fast for everyone and IPTV could actually be a reality!
Unfortunately no FTTP or at the least FTTC no IPTV for normal TV!

With cashback and new customer deals it's not too bad. BT's prices are higher than most others but of course you get BT Sport too.

I pay £18pm for their top-tier FTTC. Still have to pay bloody line rental on top though.

Yes its £18 (or more with other providers) and the line rental nearly doubles it, so its more like £30-35 or there about!

I got a 3 month half price deal with PlusNet last year, now thats gone I have 1 and 1/2 years more at full price before I can change!

It now appears that ITV Encore will launch on 9th June, Channel 123. May get quite good eventually with first run material, but for the first year during the exclusivity period with Sky they will be showing ITV repeats.

Why would we think they're going to show anything but repeats - it's the reason for the channel - hence the name.
