Living HD now confirmed directly by Sky for Thursday on channel 224. With new (while it lasts!) Ghost Whisperer, Medium, Private Practice and Britain's Next Top Model showing and repeats of CSI, CSI Miami and Criminal Minds all in HD at present. The new series of Gray's Anatomy will be also when it arrives.

All hs gone quiet on the launch of Living HD & other stations, don't know why this is.

I'm still of the opinion we will see Sky go over the 50 Mark of HD channels well before Christmas.

I would have thought we would have more rumour and some definitive answers by now as to what will be happening soon.

Anyway that's my rant over for today.

Regards to all

Dan

A bit more reading and a bit less ranting perhaps?

BBC 1 HD is apparently coming first week in October according to elsewhere in this forum. Though it is an unattributed post from a relative newbie.

October, though, is a more widely acknowledged general date.

Do we have a source for this new info about the launch of BBC ONE HD maybe even info as to the EPG position it will sit at?

Also if anyone has the above info can you please shed some light on launch dates and EPG positions of:-

ITV 2HD
ITV 4HD
BRAVO HD

S4C HD
STV HD

SKY 2 HD

Plus, I know I have stated this on many threads and I won't rest till somehow god willing we get an EPG that looks like it wasn't compiled by a 3yr old HD channels spread all over especially the movies & sports.

So any info gratefully received,

Thanks in advance and kind regards

Dan

Yes, the EPG is an utter mess at the moment, and will get considerably worse when BBC One HD launches and when its shoved in the most obscure position.

Sky really need to sort it out and figure out how to replace original SD channels with the HD simulcast versions ASAP!

On the plus side I think this will speed up the launch of SKY 2HD

Sky have said they will close Channel One and now Bravo so I expect to see all the best programmes from those channels filtering into a double whammy of quality HD programms onto SKY 1HD, SKY 2 HD & Living HD so Sky may well be offering quality over quantity.
Good news going forward.

Sky 2HD will be a waste of space.

HD goes downmarket once the likes of QVC HD comes along.

Unfortunately it's easier said than done. Don't forget that many broadcasters that uses the Sky platform pay top dollar for their EPG position and Sky has no way of just shuffling them around as they please...

I too would love to see a good clean up in the current EPG but don't think we should get our hopes up in the near future...

BUT, there must be a way for Sky to "replace" SD simulcast channels with their HD counterpart, just in the same way we' have an Irish and UK EPG but with more or less the same channels... I never watch Sky1 SD, but only Sky1 HD (if even ever as it's rubbish anyway )!

When is BBC1 HD due to start airing?

October is the guesstimate as per the answers further up this page of the thread.

But no actual announcement.

When there is it will be in this thread.

October 19th has been mentioned a couple of times, but I don't think there has been any official announcement.

An idea to clean up the EPG would be for Sky to move & Swap a few channels to give the HD terrestrial channels a sense of order on channels 121-125 like this

121 - BBC ONE HD
122 - BBC HD
123 - ITV1 HD
124 - CHANNEL 4HD
125 - FIVE HD

With the channels currently there moving further up the EPG.

this would be a wholy noble gesture from Sky and is not likely but it would bring a much needed logic to the EPG.

THOUGHTS ANYONE

i know this isnt stictly a new Channel thread message but it does include a new channel (BBC ONE HD) so i may get a way with it

Makes sense, but like you said, Sky aren't nice enough to put convenience before profits.

Called up to cancel / get a discount earlier and the call centre person said that a kids HD channel was starting soon - they weren't sure if it was Disney or nickelodeon so I think we can safely assume it's nickelodeon.
12090 V (29500, 3/4) has added 2 more test streams.

3869 has EPG data for Nickelodean
3868 has no EPG data
i know we can set up our favourites on the epg but will we be able to put the channels in the order we want, i for one would replace the HD of normal ones in place anyday... so my epg would be

101 - bbc one hd
102 - bbc2
103 - itv hd etc

No, won't happen. Channel owners pay handsomely for their EPG slots, so there's no way the end user will be allowed to shift them about as we see fit.

All these BBC dates are guesstimates as I said in post140 above.

None are yet official.

Do we know this latest reference is any more than an estimate?

I looked over the website and there is no date for the comments so they could be very recent (and therefore accurate) or very old when BBC1HD was first announced and so just an estimate.
