The cheapest of the cheap supermarket brands.
I mean like the Sainsburys Basics, Tesco Value range and the others.
This is partly inspired by the Tesco 27p choc thread ![]() Do you have any things from this range that you like? I am open and will most of what is in the Sainsburys Basics range, I have found that I love their 30p Milk Choc digestives, I can't tell the difference from the expensive stuff, their shortbread is yummy.Cashews, tomato pasta sauce, curry sauce, choc mousses, creme caramels, squash are amongst the things I have bought and either I or my kids have liked. Just wondered if you guys had any too? |

Smartprice Nice biscuits are ok. Don't really know as haven't payed out for a brand name version in erm..... ever
![]() I use Smartrpice Oven or Fry chips. They are basically the chips you get in takeaways. I use them in the same manner. I'll have them with cheese & garlic or with bolognaise on top. |

I'm quite fond of quite a lot of Sainsbury Basics range........I started trying them 2/3 years ago as the recession hit and I needed to spend less, but now I just buy them automatically.......
Ground Coffee, Cornflakes, all the Tinned products (except baked beans, haven't forced myself to try them yet), Chocolate, some of the ready meals ( Basics Lasagne is nice !.....74p), packets of apples, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms etc..........bacon, smoked salmon !........ It's probably easier to list the items I've tried but haven't liked..........only one that comes to mind is the Cheese, it was very bland and rubbery..........

Ok they aren't the most wholesome of foods whichever brand you buy, but at 9p, tesco value noodles are pretty good.
Yes, you can pay more and get a little better quality but for me the difference in quality isn't that great. I often get value lines for my store cupboard. Tins of tomatoes (for spag bol or chilli), tins of kidney beans, tins of sweetcorn. Tesco also do a tin of curry sauce that on it's own is a bit bland, but chuck in a few odds and sods and it makes it decent. For people on a shoe-string or trying to economise then these are definitely an option. |

Basics frozen broccoli is fine - same as the dear stuff but in smaller bits.
Basics jaffa cakes are better than the 'real thing'. |

I'm sure there was a report or article that said if you want to stock up on jars to fill your own food with then it's cheaper to buy a supermarket cheap curry sauce or similar as it's cheaper than buying an empty jar from a kitchen/department store

Tin toms, tin fruit, spaghetti and sausages, not bought basic beans but I do buy Sainsburys beans. I have tried the basics sausages too and found they were the best ever barbeque ones!! |

![]() I can quite believe it, Sainsburys basics curry sauce varies from 4p to 9p and its in a glass jar.My boys have the 9p noodles and they love them, I am not too keen on the flavour but if I am doing noodles for a lot of people then i will chuck in 2 basics noodles, one super noodles and some chicken stick and they taste yummy

Sainsburys basic meat is very good, especially their diced pork for casseroles. Sainsburys basic salmon portions are also excellent. Before someone told me about them I never ate salmon, now I have it frequently.
My student son virtually lives off Sainsbury Basics and is quite happy with them. |

I get the Basics/Value etc. tinned tomatoes, kidney beans and sweetcorn, also frozen peas (any tinned peas are vile). Sometimes get kitchen roll as seem to use a lot of it, but tend to get the bigger rolls in £ shops.
Tesco do a bag of frozen stir fry veg in their Value range and it's fab, a good mix of vegetables and very handy for me as I can just use what I want with no waste. I also sometimes get their packets of vegetable/savoury rice for about 25p and use it for salads. I used to get the cheapy noodles, but the flavours aren't strong enough, so I tend to use the noodles in a stirfry and keep the flavouring for something else. Sainsburys Basics bananas are good and you get loads in a bag. As someone mentioned above, Sainsburys salmon is also really nice, although I haven't bought any for a while. I prefer Tesco's Value salad cream as find the branded stuff really vinegary. Oh and one more, Tesco do a tin of sweet and sour sauce for about 30p and it's really nice. I don't understand anyone who 'has a go' at cheaper brands without trying them first. Yes, some stuff isn't very good, but how do you know if you're not willing to even try it? |

We use Asda smartprice washing up liquid and often get biscuits that are Asda smartprice. We see no difference to the regular brands, so it's pointless paying more.

I never use frozen veg apart from Birdseye petit pois. I'd rather have Heinz beans on Kingsmill bread, spread with Lurpak butter than eat any value meat or eggs,

Sainsbury's basics stuff is great - their shortbreads, madeira cake, other biscuits, tomatos, pasties, I've tried quite a lot of their basics stuff and really like it.

Basic Eggs & Frozen Veg are fine, I'm very happy with stuff like Chicken, Table Salt, Tinned tomatoes, baked beans, Raisins, Cornflour, kidney beans, Flour and will not pay more.
I also love Asda Smart Price Jaffa Cakes and I use only the cheapest Digestives I can find as they all seem to taste great. The best of the really cheap stuff seems to be the raw ingredients, products like pies and ready meals are a bit too compromised for my liking. |

Just had a tin of tesco value new potatoes with my dinner
I can safely say they are the best tinned potatoes I've ever had..........delicious ! Not that I have tinned potatoes very often but usually have a tin in the cupboard for emergencies like today when I couldn't be bothered going shopping. Let's be honest - tinned potatoes normally taste like the tin rather than the potato..........these were very nice ! |

Another vote for Jaffa cakes!!!
I'll always try the basic brand first, if i don't like it then i'll go back to the dearer version. Why pay much more for something when you can get something just as nice for a lot less?!?!? |
