Dare we mock BB 'Fame-seekers'?
JulieHayes

I was reading through another thread about how BB is not about celebrity, and as an offshoot of that I wondered if, on a small scale, we are all seeking fame, the kind that many people criticise BB housemates for.

It can be said that generally, BB participants main objective for applying in the first place is to receive some form of noteriety and, further to this, celebrity status. But, what is a celebrity, how can it be defined? In the case of BB, is could be the case, that what the housemates are looking for is evidence of their popularity; this is the fame they seek.

Could it not be said that many of us are guilty of this to a certain degree? Within the direct world in which we operate, be that the workplace, social circles etc... many people do not wish to fade into the background, they wish to be noticed. I am sure we have all know people who act in a loud or brash manner solely because they want people to notice them - is this not in itself fame-seeking, just on a smaller scale?

Just a thought

Yeah, no doubt about it. I'm sure we could all rattle off a dozen or so people that we know like that. We all have different aims in life, different reasons to make it worth living from one day to the next.

To some being noticed and feeling important is a big part of that.

I always answer this question with the fact that BB themselves promoted its initial show over here promising to make superstars out of people, as in Holland.

Many new contestants are now fully aware of the longevity of some follow-on careers post BB. And of the many flops. Respect to HMs who do wish to generally go on there for the experience and disappear back into obscurity. How do these individuals, alike Kitten (ha ha), who don't want to earn any publicity money from the show, get taken seriously.

If there's money to be made, hence fame, then surely some would take advantage.

It's all facilitated by BB and the media and then it's just gets underwritten.

And people apply for each successive series in the '0000s

Loser liggers! Not my words incidentally...
BB 'rejects' - again not my writing.

There was someone on this forum last year (i am a LONG time lurker ) who was absolutely dead certain that he would get through the auditions this year and into the house, was that you?

If so, why did you want to go in? If not then ignore me lol

Yes it was me. To cut a long story short....

No honestly, with all the negativity flying around last year and the apparent insipid nature of the BB4 house, I felt I had the credentials to offer BB when it was down. The BB4 contestants made me realise I could do it.

Looking at the current crop of HMs, it appears as if 12 people thought the same. Initially, the bunch are seemingly strong characters and I am one of those.

In one way, I thought it offered promise to help restore faith in BB. Now BB have set the premise for BB5. In stone.

I didn't get selected to audition btw.

I may have been hated... I have no real control over other peoples' perception of me.

Looking at this forum neither do the current HMs.

You mean as in you didnt get selected to give them 2 mins to impressin front of camera (or whatever it was)? Thats a shame, I think thats one of the worst things they have done in changing the audition process.
