Hello. Long time reader, first time poster, and so on. I found a thread about the viewing figures for the opening night, but they were only overnights. Does anybody know, or can anybody provide a link to anywhere that shows all the ratings?(Not BARB, it's very expensive), along with comparisons to Hell's Kitchen/previous Big Brothers. Any help would be much appreciated.

The launch show got 6.7 million.

3.4 million on Saturday night, 3.7 last night according to the overnights.

E4 seems to have about quarter of a mill for the main shows.

4M viewers was the medium point for BB4, I'm pretty sure BB3, 2 and 1 all got around 5.1M viewers. Looks like the "freak show" isn't doing much better than Big Boring 4...

That's a shame i hope the figures pick up, Should do better tonight now that Hell's Kitchen is on at 9 and BB at 10

Both the beeb and Sky both went with big films at the same start-time (28 Days Later and Deep Impact).
That probably depressed the overall figures.

It's up against Corrie tonight.

That's OK. I don't think that'll make any difference. The demographic for BB is a bit different from Corrie...

Hopefully as the series goes on more and more people will watch.

The weekend figures were always a bit lower anyway.

I'd have thought the viewers of BB were similar to those that watch Corrie. They won't be in direct competition. It's a one-off episode time slot for Corrie.

Part of the problem with BB is that there isn't really a good category to analyse viewing figures. You can't treat it like 24 hour news because of the spikes during evictions, etc. and you can't treat it like a normal show due to the cross-channel nature.

This is COMPLETE rubbish. BB1 was the lowest viewed series by a considerable distance; BB2 was next; BB3 was the highest viewed; then in BB4 it dipped for the first time.

Overall, the opening night is strong every year (apart from BB1, cos that spread by word of mouth) - and then it drops dramatically in the 2nd episode, then slowly over the weeks the viewing figures build up.... The only exception was BB4 - the only year in which they didn't build... but the start for BB4 was bigger than either BB1 or BB2 so it ended up just as big (if not bigger) than the first 2 series (even though it was labelled a 'flop').

Cwej, I'm not terribly sure where you're getting your figures from.
I'm basing them on the BARB listings (including the digital viewing) and then averaging them out over each 24 hour period (like you would with digital news)...

It is from memory. So perhaps I'm wrong - if you've got the figures, please share them.

But I KNOW for a fact that BB1 was the lowest viewed.

BB1 is always considered the lowest because digital figures were negligible. The current figures include people who tune in for 30 seconds and then flick away. Now more people have digital the numbers are going to rise until they come up with a better way of assessing viewing figures for reality-tv.

Comparing with BB4 is quite appropriate. BB3 had over a million more viewers than any other series (hence why BB4 was always considered a flop), while in the ratings timeline TV Times published, it showed that although BB2 was when Big Brother really got critical praise, the viewing figures for the series were actually less than both BB1 and BB4.

It be the voting figures which say the most about the series.

I wonder if its something to do with the people in the house.

A lot of people were I work are BB fans but nearly all of them said they watched the first dew people go into the house thought it was a freak show and turned over and said they will not be watching it this year.

I don't think your average everyday BB watcher wants to spend time watching lesbians gays and trannys. So I don't think the figures will pick up. Myself and my friends are avid BB watchers and but this year it's just too bias against straight people and its not entertaining when the whole show is just geared towards people having sex with anyone whether male female or tansexual, Shame I was so so looking forward to BB this year.

Tracy, I'm the same. I watched the first 40 minutes of the show on Friday night and after watching the first four BB's I couldn't watch anymore. I may pop back into it if I hear something goo has happened but frankly the mix of people this year does nothing to keep me viewing. None of the regular BB viewers in work with me saw anything after friday. I'm sure the new mix has brought in a few people and lost others. shame really as I was looking forward to it this year.

I second Kyrios. The show's way too slanted towards gays. Including those who've admitted being bisexual just to fit in over 60% of the house is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual. What were BB trying to achieve this time around?
