2 phone numbers with BT
Hi all
I have just had BT installed into my home. For some reason I have 2 telephone numbers and I am hoping someone can tell me why. When I joined, I was given a number. When I had it installed, I dialed my mobile and a totally different number came up. I called the number I was given and it rang I called the number that called me - and it rang Whats going on??? Why do I have two numbers. Oh and I have tried calling 150 and it is saying that it is unavailable |

When you moved in, you had an hold line activated rather than having a fresh install?
Old unused lines are usually left with a number, it sounds like this number may still somehow be in service along with the number you should have. If you call 147017070 it will read out the 'real' number on that line. Sounds like a call to BT is in order, from your mobile you can reach them on 0330 1234 150. |

BT had a thing ( cant think of the name of the product) but it was aimed at parents of teenagers...basically the line had 2 numbers , but when called the numbers would 'ring' differently...so say number 1 may go ring, ring, pause, ring, ring...number 2 would be ring,pause,ring,pause,ring...the idea was if the teenager (or whoever) gave the other number to their mates, then when the phone rang, depending on what style of ringing was applied you knew who the call was for, before picking up the handset.
Otherwise did you order BT broadband and have a BT hub, in whch case it could be the 'IP' number that comes with BT Broadband, Just noticed that you have VM as your (previous ?) provider..did you import your number from VM, or are there VM sockets as well as BT sockets in the property..perhaps the sockets have been connected together when they should be separate |

Have you got BT Broadband?
If so you probably have broadband talk which is a VOIP service. (internet phone) You will have a hub phone that is allocated a phone number (could be an 056 or a geograpical number) Cals made from this line are cheaper than using your standard home line check out the bt site www.bt.com/broadbandtalk You can also change the settings within the hub manger on what phones ring when you receive a call on this number |
