Has anyone managed to get an Iphone working on virgin. If so, how did you cut the SIM as mine does not seem to have enough border along the metal contacts?

I have noticed that the Virgin SIM does seem different to other SIMs out there.

I've ordered myself a Three Micro SIM (didn't cost me a thing) so I'll use that as a template to cut mine when I get my iPhone 4

On Monday I called Virgin and asked to be sent a 3G replacement SIM. The actual chip is now a lot smaller and it looks like cutting will be easy on this one.

Haven't bought phone yet as I am waiting to see what happens with the reception issue.

In the meantime has anyone got an Iphone 4 working on Virgin.

Cheers

Baz

Would be interested in this too, went into my local Virgin shop yesterday and the woman in there didnt seem to know what I meant about the smaller sim, she did however say she had an iPhone with a Virgin sim but figure it mustn't be the latest one.

Contract isnt up until Xmas, but if I can get this to work now I'll just change phones. If not may look at changing to one of the other networks.

Sorry but given the antennagate debarcle I eventually went for an HTC desire, no antenna issues, no iTunes and no microSIM

I bought my iPhone, cut my Virgin SIM down to size and with a lot of nervous anticipation (seemed like ages) it worked a treat.

I've had no issues at all with the whole signal problem, but I've taken advantage of the free case from Apple to help protect my handset.

So far I'm very impressed with it, and it works a treat on the Virgin network

Brilliant, thanks for the response.

Did you just take the scissors to it, or use some kind of proper cutter and a template?

I used a pair of scissors.

I ordered a free micro SIM from three, and used that as a template.

The good thing about that is the gold chip is exactly the same size on the virgin SIM as on the micro SIM from three.

I was nervous as hel whilst snipping it because one wrong move on two sides of it and it would have ended up being a disaster.

Thankfully I did it and it work's a treat

Thanks for you help...will take the plunge and get myself a sim to use as a template.

No worries.

Just make sure the scissors are sharp

I spoke to Virgin the other day and they said they were 'definitely' getting the iphone so I think I'll wait a bit for the official announcement before I get my scissors out

The problem with Virgin is they say things like that but nothing happens for a long time

You might as well use 3!

Same network coverage

T-Mobile 3G and 3 are now the same.

I cut down a 3 SIM to use in my iPad as I was too impatient to get it swapped, and you do have to cut through the metal (the right hand side in this picture) by about 2mm. I just used a pair of scissors and a microsim as a guide.
It's worth ordering a free microsim from o2, as it comes with an adaptor incase you need to use it in a different handset.

Edit: Here's my home-made microsim on the left, and an official 3 microsim in an o2 adaptor on the right.

I didn't have to cut through any of the metal chip on my SIM.

Having said that you get different sizes of chip on a SIM, the one on my Virgin SIM is slim, where as the chip on my 3 SIM is bigger.
