Very few places, apart from offices, stay closed on a public holiday these days. Can certainly imagine a cafe and garage open, not a clothing factory though. Still at least they acknowledged it was half term with Chesney being taken to school inadvertently.

Mike would never pay his staff bank holiday rates, and usually the factory girls are off on bank holidays, until Chesney came back from school I thought Corrie had just made a huge mistake! It was meant to be a Monday as Danny signed the contract on 31/5/04, maybe Corrie just decided not to mention it.
Saying that I've worked in an office environment all my life and with the exception of call centres I've never known many offices opening on a holiday. Banks, civil servants, governement offices etc never work - LOL we're too lazy!!

I assumed they were treating it as if it were Tuesday, today. They often used to do that although I've noticed it less often recently -- e.g. sometimes on the Sunday eps they flag it up as a weekend with Sunday lunch, other times it could be any day. Before they had a Sunday ep, they sometimes treated the Friday one as a Saturday -- otherwise you would never have seen the characters except at work!

That would have been OK except Danny signed the contract dated May 31st (which was yesterday Monday) and Fiz def said it was Monday morning. Still didnt really spoil 3 good episodes just because they didnt mention it was a bank holiday

Sometimes Eastenders have a whole week of episodes when its supposed to be a weekend away!

I did sit there for a while watching it slightly worried that I should have gone to work in the morning instead of lazing in bed then spending the day in the pub . I suppose, with Danny Baldwin due to start, they needed the factory up and running, and so decided not to mention it.

Either you're watching in a really worryingly attentive way, or I am completely sloppy in my viewing habits. Yeh, okay, the latter I didn't notice either of those points. Maybe the storyliners don't have a diary

No I don't. I think its highighting the problems that homosexuals face in todays society when looking for acceptance. After all the whole storyline would never have taken place if Todd's feelings were acceped as normal. Whatever normal is supposed to mean.

The storyline is rather sensational, but these things do happen. Its right that Coronation Street display them.

And of course, Todd gets himself together in the future, and then we can all be nice to him.

I think being slavish to dates and days is generally inappropriate in soaps as it can tie them in continuity knots. Only where it enhances a plot (like a Valentine's Day wedding or an 18th/21st birthday) is it really worth doing.

Bank Holidays should be banned in real-life anyway as they are just too inconsistant and random. It was less true-to-life that they were'nt gossiping about "Hell's Kitchen" or BB5 or Iraq.
