Shelagh McDonald...wow
Anyone else here listened to any of this beautiful 70's Folk music from this lady? It's turning into a bit of a summer of Folk for me, having started with stuff like Fleet Foxes and finding my way to Pentangle etc. But I discovered Shelagh McDonald on a couple of compilation albums from Amazon called Gather in the Mushrooms and Early Morning Hush.
There's quite a story around Shelagh, as she disappeared in 1971 after a horrendous LSD trip, only resurfacing in 2005 after numerous articles in Scottish papers about her. She'd been (and still is I believe) living a nomadic life with her boyfriend. But I don't think I've ever heard any music quite so beautiful in all my life. Liz's Song is absolutely breathtaking, and I've now ordered Let No Man Steal Your Thyme to experience more of her. She's even inspired me to learn guitar! Do you know of this wonderful lady and her music? What are your thoughts, and what else would you recommend to someone who loves this sound? |
