Films...
1. The back to the future trilogy
2. Bill and Teds Excellent adventure

Books...
1. Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy
2. Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency
3. Dirk Gently's long dark teatime of the soul

Watch and read these and then watch the final episode ”

And may I add the Red Dwarf episodes "Out Of Time" and "Tikka To Ride".

You say this episode/series made no sense. That it was incoherent. Well, clearly, for a great many people it wasn't. For some reason you didn't get it but that is more an issue with your interpretation than the writing. It's very pleasing to see this complexity of writing and a non-linear story on TV.”

I realise its just a made up Doctor who universe and youve got to let your imagination take over and enjoy the ride, but at some point I always seem to go 'thats going too far, this is complete b******s', i mean last season the doctor was towing planets with the tardis, and you just go.....what!!!!! Its magic wand science fiction, make it up as you go along. This episode was that to me, totally confusing and too much magic wand sci-fi where ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING can happen.

The definition of science fiction is that anything can happen. So at least we're in the right genre.

My 10 year old son just came down from his room and said " Dad, I dont get it" I asked what and he said " Why didnt Rory melt when pulling the box away from the big fire as he was plastic?"
Anyone? Or should I just say its Wibbly! Wobbley! Timey! Wimey!?

It's not your bog standard plastic. Autons are made out of different plastic to what you'd find in your plastic carrier bags.

Just tell him to study GCSE chemistry and find out the meaning of thermosetting plastics. I know that with thermosetting plastics they still burn/charr but this is an alien here. They could be made out of some compound plastic that is neither thermosetting nor thermosoftening.

I thought the music was a let down. The scene when Doctor was talking to Ameila in bed was good but would of been much more finale like if it had emotional music which is as emotional as Doomsday etc.

Wasn't action packed enough either.

Very confusing too.

The only positives was the writing, plot and acting.”

So, to summarise your post.

You didn't like: the music
You did like: The writing, plot and acting

Erm...

Because he was pulling the box AWAY from the big fire - he wasn't in it

The story in the museum was obviously a set up to make us think that Rory had died.

Yep-and he's a master at it. Thank God British TV still has some writers like Moffat and Jonathan Creek's David Renwick who can actually not only write clever and complex but also credit the audience with the brains to understand it!

Some people, apparently...

To Grazman and Robbie's Gal -

Isn't it amazing how people assume you're thick when you don't like a Doctor Who episode?

god my ten year old was crying his heart out for the last twenty minutes as smith was rewinding through time.......it was emotional enough for him without the music ladled on top.

i did love the fact smith said he just wanted it over as he did not want to go through all his lifetimes

That was the worst episode of the season. I have to admit I didn't like Matt Smith when he was first revealed as the new Doctor but he has grown on me, I like the quirkiness, but tonight......

No, it's not. Just because it's sci-fi doesn't mean it's allowed to not make sense. Anyone can make up their own universe but any event should be coherent within that universe.

Otherwise, it's just lazy writing.

Thanks I will tell him just that. Im sure as he's only 10 he will understand perfectly.

That sounds like something he will understand much better.
Thank you.

I personally thought it was the least "reset switch" ending off all the series so far. In previous episodes we've had someone swallow the time vortex after destroying the tardis with a tow truck, a giant vacuum cleaner, we've had someone destroy the tardis without actually destorying the tardis (series 3) and then towing the planet back with a tow rope on the tardis?!

Today's episode made perfect sense compared to all those! (In saying that I did enjoy those too, just not as much as the end of Series 5) I'd be surprised if you understood series 1, 2, 3 and 4 but didn't understand series 5.

People who found this too complicated: How do you not fall over lots?

It was hardly war and peace.

For the last time .... I did get it. I understood what they were trying to do. But I thought it was incoherent nonsense.

To all the people who have insinuated I am thick, do you understand the meaning of the word 'incoherent'?

I think people disagree. I haven't seen anyone call you thick.

But the fact is, to quite a few of us, it made perfect sense within the bounds of what we expect from Doctor Who.

It is a fairytale more than science fiction.

I understand the meaning of the word incoherent. I'm not entirely clear on how it's relevant to this episode, though.

This episode was absolute drivel. But then, it has been drivel since BBC Wales took over with those "writers".

Yes, I had the same reaction on the main episode thread when I made points similar to yours.

They should listen to themselves.

Talk about smug and patronising!

I understand the meaning of the word perfectly, I'm just not sure how it applies to this episode. I thought it was perfectly coherent.

There are still two questions left open, but it seems this is an arc that lasts for more than one series and that for me is a good thing. Ashes to Ashes went for 3 series before it got tied up (if it ever did), while Lost went for 7 series. Now that was an incoherent mess!!!

I think I expected too much. It ended up just like a good old fashioned big reset button. I had hoped we'd got away from all of that.

There are so many holes I could pick in it but I'm finding myself really bugged by how he got out of the Pandorica...

Is this right: A future Doc goes back in time to give Rory the sonic to open the Pandorica... which he does and then we see the freed Doc go back in time to give Rory the Sonic...

Sorry but that's a nonsense... All I can see is the Doc trapped in the Pandorica and wondering how he sets that plan in motion to begin with????

Also how did he even have the Sonic anyway. Didn't the Alliance scan him before they locked him in and he had nothing?

Also if the Sonic could open the Pandorica so easily why didn't the Doc just use it straight away when he first found the Pandorica??

The whole story was riddled with problems like this... Oh can anyone tell me where young Amelia went to at the end. Amy and her younger self were together and then they weren't...

Grroooan ... I need to start accepting that this is popcorn telly. I was just hoping for a bit more intellect with it all...
