isn't a great actor. He was interviewed in DW Confidential and he was exactly the same! Heck, I thought he was acting a bit but nope, he's actually Rory in real life. Not that his acting is bad, just that I don't think he actually 'acts' as such - just says the lines as himself. Karen Gillan seems a lot less confident in real life, she seems to act Amy.

Rory is still alive too. Make up you mind, mate. One minute dead, than alive then dead then... oh it's so confusing.

Sure he plays a character similar to himself, but he's still acting and he does a good job. You don't have to play a character nothing like yourself to be classed as a good actor in my opinion.

He talks exactly the same. I thought he was acting Rory in the real life interviews. But he wasn't. He's really like that. He's got that same drippy personality in real life as he does on screen. I thought he was acting a bit wimpy but he's really like that. He seems a decent bloke, just didn't seem that different to Rory, that's all.

Maybe that's why they chose him? Because he was exactly what they were looking for in Rory?

How do you know that his interviews aren't a act though. I don't know, but I know a lot of actors put on a "act" so to speak based on their latest role.

I thought he was great in tonight's episode.

Not sure why you expect to see people cast 'against type'. ISTM they wanted a male character who was going to contrast with Matt Smith's Dr - who is on the zany side - and also be a believable boyfriend for Amy. So they chose an actor who could portray that.

I suspect many people consider him ridiculously attractive, and are delighted he's the same in real life...

He's playing the character, remember Mickey (Noel Clarke) character was a bit of a gweeb in the series

I don't care if Arthur Darvill is a crap actor only playing himself or the greatest actor that ever lived, playing someone totally different to his real personality. I think Rory is a great character and hope he sticks around as a permanent fixture of the TARDIS crew. That's all that matters to me.

Heck, if Arthur's as nice a guy as Rory, then so much the better for him. I'd want him as a friend. Totally nice guy.

He's in a film called Pelican Blood I saw at the Edinburgh Film festival last week; he's not the lead, but it's a really good film, I shall remember to bump to this thread when it gets released.

He was also in Little Dorrit and he was completely different in that.
