Sorry to ask such a silly question, but is it a free venue ?

Do you mean for the crowd or the organisers?

The crowd definitely pay for tickets, and I'd assume the council or field owners charge the organisers for the hire of the fields.

Free?

No tickets cost about 180 quid. Its not really a venue either, more a dairy farm.

About 70% is owned by the Eavis' who are the festival organisers, then much of the other fields are neighbouring farms

Cheers, guys. And yes, it was in reference to the crowds.

And about a £180 for a ticket ?! - sorry, but a bit too steep for me.

Funnily enough, there was something about this recently

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/finance...nbury-any-day/

For me its always worked out as brilliant value, but obviously as a front up price its quite off putting. Also Glastonbury doesn't really release the lineup until after tickets are sold out so for many its not worth taking the gamble.

If you put things into perspective, some of the bands (especially the headliners) charge in excess of £50 per ticket for one gig. £180 for the range of bands, the festival itself, camping etc... is a bargain. The reason I never go to festivals is because I rarely like the majority of the acts, and very rarely care too much for the headliners so for me it'd be a waste of money.

it's a bargain really. 4 days camping, all them bands and other acts for entertainment.
I've paid roughly the same for Leeds festival last 3 years and think it's value for money but Glastonbury is so much more than a music festival.

Yes - saw that last night when they showed the bit where middle aged perverts could walk about naked. Absolutely hideous

It's a hotbed of hipster douchbaggery. The fact that Jo Whiley's face is all over it proves my point.

It was good up until about 5 years ago, now the lineup just seems to be the same every year.

Before mocking Glastonbury, have you actually seen the line up?! It is MASSIVE. Bigger than any festival in the UK, ten fold, easy.

Have a look, http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up-poster/ . You'd be hard pushed not to find someone you like.
