Currys are clearing out stock of 5800. I paid 79.97 at Chelmsford branch today. This price did not show on any price comparison website.

It is a steal. Good spot. I got a TF5800PVRt with a 250Gb HD for £79.95 from Orpington.

It's a limited edition model like this one: http://www.svp.co.uk/electrical/av-h...-250gb-hd.html

The two on the shelf were more like this: http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p...roduct_id/2379

They should have one more in stock at Orpington (showing three and two on the shelf) if anyone wants to grab one.

Most stock seems to be at the Essex and Kent branches.

I just went into my local Currys and they had one remaining 5800 at £79ish. However, it was a display model, just the unit itself, no box, no remote, no handbook, no link cable. True the Manager offered me an extra £20 off to take it as was, but it sounded too much like a pig in a poke for me!

So buyers beware.

I have a spare handbook and the pick of two spare remotes you could have had for the cost of P&P.

Thanks for the offer. I am mulling things over, as he seemed a bit too keen to offload it.

That's unlucky. Orpington had two black ones on the shelf but the guy went out back and got me a fully packaged and sealed limited edition one with the mirrored front.

The Moorgate shop checked earlier for me and Orpington were showing 4 in stock, so I suspected they had at least one more boxed. I was tempted to go buy it to Ebay it but thought I'd be sociable and post the details here instead!

Irresistible You could still get your money back if it were faulty... and you'd surely put MyStuff on it and download the relevant manual from Toppy.org.uk.

Good news - for me! I've just come back from Orpington Currys with the second to last TF5800. A very helpful assistant found all the bits so the display model came complete with box, packaging, leads, remote and instructions and £10 off as well.
I'm sure it will take a lot of getting used to - the remote control is sooooooooooo ugly!!! I'm looking forward to setting it up as soon as I've finished typing but I'm sad for my FVRT200s x2 one of which has still got loads of stuff on it to watch and I might keep the second one on the other TV just in case.
If anyone wants to get a display one without a remote please be aware that a new one might be £30+ !! So grab a bargain remote if one is offered.
Looks as though I'll be moving here to the Topfield forum for all the latest TAPs and gossip etc.
Thank you all on the Digifusion forum - it's been emotional.

Presumably a 5800 without any standard bits would need to be provided with some kind of USB cable. Is it a special, or a standard type?

I already own a 5800 whch I love, and I'm wondering about getting one of these as a spare for when mine packs up! My local Currys today had 2 face lift 5800s left but they were selling for £99 (so not sure why not £79 like elsewhere).

The face lift model is just a normal 5800 with a new front on it isn't it? The remote is the same too is it? I don't like the 'new' remote they supply with the 5810. Cheers.

A One-for-All URC 7555 or 7556 is a popular 5 in 1 replacement remote for the Toppy for about £15. Not sure how well a new one is key-mapped. My older one is heavily customised using the learning feature so I still need to keep an original to hand just in case.

I have the "facelift" 5800 - it comes with a remote which is pointy at one end. It's laid out a little like a sky remote with important functions in logical places. The 5810 uses a different set of remote codes and is laid out like a generic remote control. The most important button (archive - to access recordings) is just another tiny button somewhere down the bottom end of the remote.

I bought a Logitech Harmony 515 to deal with the 5800 and 5810, works well, with an LCD display and four user programmed buttons and descriptions you can do pretty much anything with it. At the time the Harmony was on clearance at £17, can still be had for that price at some places (think Misco was one of them).

The Currys at B90 4LD has two 5800's on display:

an old one that looks like it's been kicked around the shop for £100, and a facelifted one (250gig) for £120.

they were still there when I walked away - too much for something I don't really need.

The Curry's in London Moorgate looked up stock for me and there were none in London but most stores listed were Essex and Kent, probably because I was in East-Central London.

That was how I found Orpington had some 'pristine' ones. I went to Orpington after work and found one marked down to £129.95 from £179.95. I was about to give up and head home when I spotted another nearby marked to clear at £79.95. Both were standard black ones but when I asked an assisstant to get me one he went out back and found a pristine facelift 250Gb model and said 'That's the bargain of the century innit!'.

I'd suggest phoning a London shop, asking them if they have 5800s in stock then asking them who nearest to your postcode has any which are boxed and perfect.

I decided I do need a spare after all! I got a Facelift model for £79.97 even though it was marked up as £99.97 on the shelf. So may be worth getting the price checked if you see any higher priced models in the strores.

The Leeds (Crown point) store had one more left at lunchtime today. If you e-mail customer services via the website and give the Currys item code of '522544 - TURBOSAT 5800PVR' they can tell you if any stores in your area still have stock.

For anyone in the Yorkshire area... apparently Huddersfield, Guisley, Harrogate and Beverly stores all have one each (or they did earlier today)!

Just joined the (Toppy) club. Currys Wisbech had one 5800PVRt left on the shelf at £79.97.

They also have a Sony BD player reduced (from £329) to £49 - apparently one display and one pristine stock. But I chose only the Topfield today.

Now to investigate toppy.org...
