Hitomi, gone but not forgotten

Hitomi went missing last Saturday. I've put up posters and handed out leaflets and rang every shelter and vet in the area but to no avail. Someone told me yesterday that a cat matching her description was seen dead on the next road over. I can't bring myself to go over there.

I adopted Hitomi from a shelter after she'd been rescued from a cat hoarder. She'd suffered through a bout of cat flu and came out of it minus her eye and most of her teeth. That's what made me want to adopt her.

Despite her disability, Hitomi was a terror of the neighbourhood. She fought any cat that crossed her path, gave us frequent gifts of mutilated rats and mice and sent us on the run when my negligent neighbour gave her access to his parakeets. She wormed her way into the affection of even the most strident of cat haters and claimed any home with an open door (or window.)

And while she might be gone, we will never get the cat hair out of the carpets, so she will remain with us always.

Awww so sorry that is very sad,

Personaly I would have had to check to see if it was my puss, reason being is a friend I worked with her cat was missing for ages, she put out posters, rang vets and everything, she was told about a puss that was killed in a road near her, she went along and was definatly sure it was her puss, she buried puss etc and started to grieve, then a friend told her that a house that was being renovated there was a cat trapped inside, she went along (also being a cat lover was worried about puss) she managed to get to puss and it was her Mischief, who was terribly thin (had been trapped for a few weeks).
It was very much her puss , when she took her to the vet he also confirmed it, puss got better, but as you can see it's so much better to check for yourself.

If you can't face it yourself could you ask a friend or neighbour who knows Hitomi to check for you? That way you will know one way or the other.

Loadsabuttons, you have to go, or send someone else who really knows her. I wouldn't rest unless I knew for sure. If is isn't then, there is some hope that she may come back. If it is, then you definitely know where she is, and you and her can be at peace.

Problem is, the woman who told me this was very hungover and all she said was that someone told her a cat like mine was seen dead on the next road. She couldn't give me any more details, and as soon as I heard that I got very upset and burst into tears (she walked off). I thought about going over there all that day but the thought of it made me feel sick. I would have sent my housemate but she'd gone off to Belfast. Since then, the rubbish collection has been around and they would have taken her.

I know what you're saying about closure, but I've always had this problem. Whenever I had a dead pet before I couldn't bear to look, and the one time I did I freaked out so much my mother ended up taking me to the doctor.
