Don't know. There are hypothetical particles called
tachyons that are supposed to be able to go backwards in
time (maybe someone who knows more about physics can explain):

..so if tachyons exist, it might be possible to use them to build
some kind of time machine.

Of course, this raises the question of if its possible, why we
never see tourists from the future arriving.

One theory, which makes sense to me, is that time travel is indeed possible-but not into the past before it was actually invented, as there would need to be both a transmitter and a receiver (the analogy used was the inventor the phone having no-one to call, yet). So, we could not see tourists from the future arriving as we've yet to discover time travel, but if we invented a working time machine tomorrow which would enable us to travel two weeks ahead, then someone from two weeks ahead could just as easily travel to tomorrow, though no further back than that.

That makes sense, but what in the future that gets developed so they you an go further back -- so it must never be developed like in the future - unless of course you have to sign some vow of secrecy, and have to 'blend in' to the time you are in...

There is a great book titled: "The Science of Doctor Who" by Paul Parsons which covers this and a shed load of other concepts - it's a cracking read to dip in and out of on the science behind loads of DW concepts.
