Orange IPhone sim problem

As promised my IP4 arrived from Orange on Friday. I resisted the new sim and put it in the phone. When I switched the phone on I got a very strange message. NO SIM CARD INSTALLED INSERT A VALID SIM WITH NO PIN LOCK TO ACTIVATE PHONE. I tried the sim in a adapter in the old phone to see if it would work. It just came up no sim installed. I contacted Orange CS who said I had to wait 24 hours for the sim to register. 24 hours later and still no working sim. I called CS again who passed me over to the higher level IPhone team. They said they had quite a few cases of this and at the moment no time line for it to be fixed. So as much as I dont want to ,really beginning to think about sending the phone back if it cant be resolved.
