Singers and bands seem to come and go with a great frequency these days They're bigged up and "A" listed, and shoved in your face by every Radio Station, which means that they're constantly pushed down our throats and hiked up to top of the singles charts

Which singers/bands do you think WON'T be around in 2/3 years because they're only doing well now owing to the constant play by the Radio Stations?

Just some of mine:

The Saturdays
Dizzee Rascal
Peter Andre
JLS
Cheryl Cole

I know I might get slated for this, but I really hope Cheryl Cole is still around in 2/3 years time!

I don't think Alexandra Burke will still be around..nore the Saturdays...unfortunately

Cheryl won't **** off that quickly.

My pick for fading into obscurity soon (some of which I'd rather didn't);

The Saturdays.
Tine Tempah.
Alexandra Burke.
Ke$ha.
Pixie Lott.
Adam Lambert.
Ellie Goulding.
JLS.
Diana Vickers.
N Dubz.

Several acts are perfectly reasonable but rather unoriginal. For example, Kesha and Kelis; the Hoosiers and Scouting for Girls; and Eliza Doolittle and Ellie Goulding.

In such cases only one such act is likely to endure.

Its kind of irrelevant what radio 1 will be playing in 20 yrs because who will stand the real test of time will be those that can really play.

Hey I went to Hard Rock Calling the other day Pearl Jam were headlining I first discovered them in 1992 and guess what they still rock harder than anyone around now!

Kelis has been around for years. 11/12 years to be exact. She will still be around no matter how much more her albums continue to bomb.

I can't see Ellie goulding, Marina, N dubz (hopefully), Sugababes, Adam lambert, Jordin sparks (love her though) being around

I think the sats could potentially make a turnaround.

Some of the acts listed here were also listed on singers that will be around in ten years! Sadly, unless they get support from radio 1 and tv, it looks like mini viva could get dropped

Dizzee Rascal has been around since 2003 and has released 4 studio albums. Yet for some reason people seem to think he only came about when he teamed up with Calvin Harris a couple of years ago.

Alexandra Burke (no orginatlity (atm) and all these collaborations, people will get bored)
Jason Derulo (more of a wish, but i can't see him topping the 3 shittest songs of the year with another shitter one tbh)
JLS (there time is up, thier new one is SHIT and sooner or later some new guy or some around now is gonna attract the female fans more, maybe justin bieber, he looks alright shirtless.)
Tinie Tempah (two songs that sound the same, one trick pony me thinks)
The Saturdays (well for them, its up to them either buck theer ideas up and take time to make good music or just lose all your fans by releaseing shit material)
N-Dubz (would love to see them around but i think Dappy might ruin it for them, tulisa will go solo but dunno about the otehr one.)

Cheryl's been around for nearly 8 years already, she's hardly just appeared. Same with Dizzie, he's been around for a while too.

Not sure Peter Andre is even "around" now, certainly not really in the charts.

Girls Can't Catch won't last.

JLS... assuming they stay together I think they could well still be around for a while yet.

All these "unique" singers that are pushed by Radio 1 - Ellie Goulding, Diana Vickers, Marina & the Diamonds, etc. won't last. A bit like Kate Nash

The Saturdays... well their future hangs in the balance with their third album, no idea what'll do, but if it flops I see them getting dropped.

I'd hesitate to suggest Lady GaGa may not even be around in the charts for much longer, she's a little over exposed on the music front.

I think artists like Kate Nash won't be around in the mainstream, but they'll still be writing & recording music with a loyal fanbase right beside them.

Aww I quite like Ellie Goulding I wish she'd stick around for longer but I can't see it happening.

Ke$ha needs to go
As do The Saturdays
and Bieber
and of course Burke, Vickers and DFS
Cole will stick arounf, not necessarily musically, but a "TV personality" or something. Maybe she'll even become a "fashion designer"

Also, "her majesty" Lady GaGa imo has peaked far too soon and will soon be gone. She'll then have a comeback and it could go one way or the other. GaGa's not programmed to do things by halves.

I think we'll be seeing less and less "boybands" in the coming years.

They've had their day.

There is nothing new in this and it's been ongoing since the birth of rock and roll. I grew up in the early 80s and the frequency with which bands came and went was even more rapid than now. In 1981 Adam and the Ants were the big thing, three years later no one wanted to know, same as all the trends and most of the bands that were popular at the start of the decade like 2 Tone, ska, the new romantics, post punk, were largely dead ducks by 1984. Also of the last decade you could mention So Solid Crew, Liberty X, Atomic Kitten and S Club 7 of the teenybopper acts that have sunk without trace.
However, one group that was said to have a hackneyed, predictable sound and whose first single didn't make much of an impact in 1962 went on to be the biggest group ever.

People have been saying that she's 'peaked' with each release since Just Dance, and each time she's gotten bigger and bigger.

I think she has a good 10 years in her at least. If Britney, Christina, Beyonce, Pink etc. can do it, Gaga can. She probably wont always be on top, but I dare say she'll continue being a prominent figure in music for a while yet. She knows exactly what she's doing, and that industyr savvy ain't going anywhere.

With Marina, Ellie, Florence etc. I can see them carrying on, but under the radar.

McFly are an interesting one too. They've been pretty consistent for 5/6? years now. I'm not entirely sure what their future can be though, cus they've outgrown the teeny audience...but they won't ever be seen as a 'serious' band.

Whither Darude, ATB, Fragma, and all those other dance acts that had huge hits ten years ago and were never heard of again? Some of these were actually good tunes and stand up well now.

most of the bands that were popular at the start of the decade like 2 Tone, ska, the new romantics, post punk, were largely dead ducks by 1984.
While the "true" New Romantic scene's mainstream exposure was relatively short-lived in itself, the synth-led music and makeup-heavy look it spawned pretty much defined the first half of the 1980s.

Duran Duran came from that scene but quickly outgrew it, I think Culture Club were also originally a part of it. And the likes of Kajagoogoo's look was definitely influenced by it. (They definitely went up and came down fast, not least due to sacking their singer at the peak of their success- WTF?! )

As for "post punk", that could constitute a lot of things, including the new romantics

Also of the last decade you could mention So Solid Crew, Liberty X, Atomic Kitten and S Club 7 of the teenybopper acts that have sunk without trace.
S Club 7 split when they were still relatively successful.

Atomic Kitten were also still doing well when they went on an extended hiatus. (Though they still seem to be going in a half-arsed capacity. Apparently they released something in 2007 that flopped, so maybe that proves your point )

The true artists though e.g. songwriters and those who had something new to offer, left more of a mark whereas today's more disposable, manufactured/reality TV, production line fodder - not so much. The Beatles (who you mentioned) are a very good example: Even with 2 of them no longer with us, the songwriting endures forever, whether it's your cup of tea of not. Other than Diana Vickers' hardcore fans, no one else will remember her in 10 years' time. Nor care.
