Looking at the data we do have (i.e. not a lot) ITV's Evening News averaged 2.9m across the week, peaking at 3.3m, easily making it the highest rated news bulletin on ITV1 and very nearly making the channel's top 20. Ridiculous to think that some on this thread were calling for it to be axed or moved not so long ago.

To think it took well over a year to get to Part 2 and nowadays we move onto the next part after only a month.

I see ITV HD topped the 4m (7%) reach figure in the officials for the first time.

Still less than half with the channel are actually watching it though.

BBC HD, which unlike ITV1 HD is available in the whole of the UK, on all platforms was just short of 4m.

What a ridiculous thing to say. And an episode of Doctor Who and a couple of football games was hardly "varied". Indeed the BBC had more football on this weekend than ITV had X Factor in their weekend!

Some people really need to grow up in this thread!

I think ITV1 HD is benefitting from the fact that it's a proper simulcast channel and has its biggest shows such as Corrie on there.

BBC's HD channel will probably make up the ground and overtake ITV1 HD, when it becomes a proper BBC1 simulcast and offers HD for EastEnders.

Nice and strong for the England game, I reckon. The match average compares nicely to the Portugal one a couple of years ago. Considering that was an hour later and went all the way to penalties, I think yesterday did quite well considering the result. The first hour of build-up was held down by a very strong F1 rating.

Top Gear did OK yesterday. The football might have hit it to the tune of 0.5-1m, but to be fair the ~20% share is well within the shows usual range.

Perhaps you could start Brekkie. Have you been teaching anyone the ins and outs of the 1996 Broadcasting Act recently? I used to think you were annoying but at least fair in your posts. However, your posts seem to be getting more aggresive and biased recently.

The BBC's weekend highlights:
Doctor Who series finale
Wimbledon, including a Murray match.
Glastonbury
Formula One: Qualifying and Race
Top Gear
Two World Cup games, including England vs Germany.

Quite a good selection of shows there.

One of the more interesting ratings stories of 2010 so far has been the low figures that C4's teen soap Hollyoaks has been producing compared to years gone by. To try and pinpoint exactly how big a drop we are witnessing, I've just ran a quick comparison using consolidated figures from w/e June 20th 2010, to the equivalent week in 2008. What makes it difficult is the fact that not all episodes make the top 30 or top 10 for C4 and E4 respectively, so where official data has been missing I've taken the overnights and added around 40k to the E4 episodes and around 60k to the C4 episodes to give a fairly robust estimation. The figures in bold are officials and completely accurate, the others are estimates. +1 has been excluded because the figures are scarce and only have a negligible impact on the overall reach. So here we go:

Channel 4
Two years ago...
Monday 1.58m
Tuesday 1.73m
Wednesday 1.77m
Thursday 1.74m
Friday 1.5m
--------------------
Average: 1.66m

Today...
Monday 1.33m
Tuesday 1.17m
Wednesday 1.0m
Thursday 0.94m
Friday 0.87m
--------------------
Average: 1.06m

E4
Two years ago...
Friday 0.49m
Monday 0.64m
Tuesday 0.81m
Wednesday 0.72m
Thursday 0.65m
--------------------
Average: 0.66m

Today...
Friday 0.34m
Monday 0.66m
Tuesday 0.27m
Wednesday 0.40m
Thursday 0.38m
--------------------
Average: 0.41m

Conclusion
In summary, an average episode in June 2008 was seen by 2.32m across Channel 4 and E4, excluding +1.

In June 2010, episodes are on average totalling 1.47m across Channel 4 and E4, excluding +1.

This represents a 36.7% drop in two years.

More than likely. It's a shame that the other simulcast channels like C4 HD and E4 HD aren't reported separately.

Dancc, out of interest do you know what the news and current affairs ratings have been like in Australia last week due to Julia Gillard becoming Prime Minister there. Would be interesting if it was higher than what it usually averages.

And it seems Underbelly is to be remade by Starz in the US, not sure how it would work over there but could be brilliant if done right.

Agreed, with shows such as Idol, AGT, Gossip Girl, Corrie repeats, Vampire Diaries, Entourage, Hells Kitchen, BGMT, they could do well on HD.

Surprisingly it had no real impact on the news bulletins or current affairs shows. The breakfast shows on Thursday morning saw a bit of a boost though, with Today up 7.5% and Sunrise up 4.8% on the previous week's edition.

Interesting news about Underbelly. Not sure a remake is needed though.

Are US remakes of other countries shows ever done right!

The odd thing is Starz seem to have effectively only bought the name (if they even keep that) because as well as the inevitable relocation to the US, they're also looking for US gangland stories to base it on - so really they could have got away with doing their own original series.

Thanks for the Hollyoaks analysis Dancc-really interesting and must have take some time. Can't say I'm surprised though by the results, because everyone remembers the time when Hollyoaks was reguarly above 1.5m and ocasionally making 2m for those big episodes.

---

What's the point in BARB uploading half the data?? So that's the past 3 weeks now we have significant holes with no ITV:HD and now BBC1/2 being reported.

It does well IMO. Anything else they could put there would not rate as well.

Do you happen to know what C4 Racing got on Saturday betwen 13:55 and 15:55? Need it for the DSRPG. Much appreciated if you have it.

That's OK. I was curious myself so felt it was worth doing. If EastEnders had dropped by the same margin it would be regularly below 5m now.

Don't forget, there must be a few HD viewers who switched to E4 HD, when it launched six months ago, to catch the first look episode. And we know how BARB underestimates HD viewing!!

The likelyhood of high rating prime time tennis is getting slimmer.

Murray came on court about 4.45pm I think on BBC2, then moved to BBC1 from 5.15pm, and will then move back to BBC2 at 6pm.

By 7pm I expect the match will be almost over.

Priceless Antiques Roadshow got a monumental boost from the football coverage.

Shame, because that's only going to encourage further repeats of said show.
