Some other interesting stories doing the rounds today...
(1) BARB launches new virtual online meter trial:
Quote:
“BARB has launched a six-month trial to test the possibility of integrating PCs and laptops into its main panel for TV viewing.
The TV audience-measurement service is working with Kantar Media's TNS to recruit a panel of 75 homes for the trial, which will involve fitting every home PC with a virtual meter to track online viewing habits.
The meter will also allow viewers to register the audiovisual content they are watching. It is the first time this device has been tested, according to BARB.”

It also noted a “fightback” by the ITV News at Ten which has piled on more than 100,000 viewers from its own low point in 2007 of 2.4 million.
Researchers found that audiences for Channel 4 News, standing at 791,000 in 2009, have dipped slightly over the period, losing an average of 150,000 viewers.
But the audience for Five News has grown from a low point of 548,000 in 2007 to its average figure of 768,000.”
