I'm an idiot. Corrie did infact beat EastEnders, if you take into account HD, which everybody does of course.
I will update it all soon. Although yeah, superb for WDYTYA. I won't be surprised if WDYTYA inevitably drops next week, while Identity increases to about 4.5m.

From the research I did the other day the highest series launch for WDYTYA was 7.1m for Patsy Kensit in 2008. Looks like Brucie could beat that when the officials come out.
Not sure what the highest ever is. |

It was the first time i had watched WDYTYA and i enjoyed it. It was so sad at the end when he realised that his grandfather didn't have a gravestone

Surprised that Identity has gone up... I really want to like it as it's a good idea for a drama and shows promise, but I just think it gets even more terrible by the episode. I'm surprised the audience hasn't abandoned it yet, but ITV must be fairly pleased with what it's getting so far and if it stays around 4-5m for its run.

Brilliant start for WDYTYA, no doubt helped by Brucie's presence, and BB did well to get 2.4m despite starting halfway through everything else. |

Channel 4 Overnights:
The Simpsons- 1.7m Hollyoaks- 1.3m (Isn't that higher than usual?) WW1:Finding The Lost Batallian- 1.4m Big Brother- 2.4m Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares USA- 1m Hollyoaks did well considering and has recovered from the sub 1m it got around a few months ago. WW1 Doc did okay, thought it would hit 2m for some reason. Big Brother did decent considering WDYTYA did fantastically and up against The Silence, however BB i don't think is tape checked a sit finished 6-7 mins early. EDIT- It was Big Brother's Joint Highest Rated Monday episode along with Week 1 Monday. Any full roundup?? Interesting to see the soaps

Good officials for Sky News w/e July 11.
Number one is the 10pm bulletin on Friday 9th, with 864,000. OK, it was big news night, but it was up against regular news bulletins on BBC1/ITV1. |

I was pleased to see though that when Burley came on air, BBC News took the lead again. Worryingly an edition of Afternoon Live did make Sky News' top 10 though - thankfully a very rare occurrence and something I will put down to the fact that she was on location and making a show of herself. Elsewhere, it seems Sky Sunrise presenter Charlotte Hawkins is one of 10 potential candidates to replace Christine Bleakley on The One Show. Tess Daly has apparently been ruled out due to excessive salary demands. |

Unfortunately for Sky these big breaking news "events" occur once in a blue moon. The rest of the time BBC News dominates.

From Digital Spy:
BBC One 13:45 - Doctors: 1.44m (20.3%) ---- 19:30 - Fake Britain: 3.50m (16.7%) 20:00 - EastEnders: 8.60m (37.3%) 20:30 - Panorama: 3.24m (13.9%) ---- 22:35 - My Child's Big Fat Birthday Party: 2.21m (16.0%) BBC Two 19:00 - Victorian Pharmacy: 1.11m (5.4%) 20:00 - University Challenge: 2.32m (10.1%) 20:30 - Antiques Master: 1.71m (7.3%) ---- 22:00 - Rev: 1.32m (6.3%) ITV1 + HD 19:00 - Emmerdale: 6.51m (33.4%) 19:30 - Coronation Street: 8.77m (37.4%) 20:30 - Coronation Street: 8.48m (40.1%) Channel 4 18:30 - Hollyoaks: 1.30m (7.3%) * +1: 73,000 (0.4%) * best figure since March 24th ---- 22:40 - Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares: 930,000 (7.3%) * +1: 120,000 (1.8%) Five 17:30 - Neighbours: 1.21m (9.2%) 18:00 - Home and Away: 958,000 (5.8%) ---- 20:00 - Police Interceptors: 996,000 (4.3%) BBC Three 22:00 - EastEnders: 783,000 (3.7%) E4 19:00 - Hollyoaks: 536,000 (2.7%) Fiver 18:30 - Home and Away: 472,000 (2.6%) Note: I presume the terrestrial soap ratings are tape checked, while the multichannel counterparts - ie ITV1 HD are not. Unusual to see sops near 9m in July. The share for the second Coronation Street episode looks wrong, as it suggests less people were watching TV at 20:30 compared to before and after. Good for Hollyoaks, the fear of record low figures has diminished a lot in the past few months. Notice Rev took a bit of a tumble this week as well. |

Hollyoaks seems to be bouncing back, especially on Mondays. Maybe they could axe the Friday episode as that seems to be the biggest problem at the moment?
On the last set of officials available for E4, the Monday-Thursday episodes of Hollyoaks each made the top 5 with at least 400,000 viewers each. However the Friday episode was nowhere to be seen, failing to make the top 10 and therefore below 353k. It's a similar story on C4 as well with the last Friday's episode only logging 833k in the overnights, compared to 1.24m, 1.01m, 1.20m and 1.06m for the other episodes that week. |

I agree these stories are, thankfully, rare events but certainly both news channels have enjoyed an increased profile and had high ratings for many big new events (ash cloud, election, leaders debates, hung parliament) in the past few months. The Sky News peak audience for their Raul Moat coverage was one of amongst the highest in the channels history, certainly top 5 I would have thought (ahead of 9/11 and the July 5th attacks in London) with the Leaders Debate by far and away Sky's highest ever audience. |

Nevertheless, I think it may be wise to air a pop music programme in the 'Oaks slot on Friday. It's never a problem for the soaps to cut back. Emmerdale can manage with six, although it would probably be best with five, while Corrie can only creatively survive with three in my opinion |

While the gap may have narrowed I don't think it is the case that the BBC took the lead when Kay Burley came on air.

The situation may improve some more when Sky Sports News is removed from Freeview (DTT) in a few weeks time. It's not completely inconceivable that a lot of Freeview viewers that currently have that on as "wallpaper TV" may make the switch to Sky News, which does of course run hourly sports bulletins and will even share sports presenters with Sky Sports News from next month. |

I'm pleased with WDYTYA? as it was a very nice episode but I am surprised at just how high it was. It's also good to see Identity getting a boost.
OT - I watched that birthday show by mistake last night, was anyone else freaked out by the lengths some parents went to ? |
