Arguably the best highlights of the series. The show is so much better when it's just light hearted fun.

They really do love Masterchef, don't they - Ten must be grinning from ear to ear, it just keeps getting better ratings each night.

About 200k up on last year as well. Brilliant, extraordinary, huge... I'm running out of adjectives, good job the series is nearly over!

It was a bit low wasn't it. Barely ahead of Sea Patrol, which should beat it next week based on these figures.

Especially disappointing since I've heard last night's episode was very good.

Glad to see Luther is looking likely to be recommissioned - it's refreshing to see a decision being made without basing it on its ratings.

Masterchef doing the business again. Will be interesting to see how Junior Masterchef rates, as well as next years series.

Is that a new digital news channel from ABC?

That's right. The channel launched at 7:30pm yesterday and its first broadcast was simulcast on the main channel, ABC1, in place of current affairs show The 7.30 Report.

You can watch the first 8 minutes on YouTube:

Looks good. I like the graphics, nice and clean.

Hi,

I really enjoy reading the Austrailan updates from Dancc and over the last few weeks I've also been reading the American overnights for Fox, CW, ABC, NBC and CBS. I quite enjoy reading them and was wondering if others were also intrested in hearing how they do. If there is an intrest I'd be happy to post them

Some bits and pieces from Deadline:

Forget Piers Morgan at CNN, who remembers Martin Bashir? Currently a co-anchor of ABC's Nightline, he has now got his own afternoon show on MSNBC and will contribute to NBC's current affairs series, Dateline.
______________________________
CBS have picked up CIA drama "Chaos" for midseason. Starring Eric Close (Without A Trace), the show is made by 20th Century FOX Television and the two sides struggled to reach an agreement. Arguments ranged from the length of the episode order (CBS wanted 8, FOX would only do 13), the license fee per episode, where it would be filmed (FOX offered Dallas to cut costs, CBS wanted LA) and finally broke up when CBS tried to get their in-house studio involved.

However, CAA (Creative Artists Agency) has managed to bring them together and a deal has been done for a 13 episode midseason order. The only other midseason drama CBS have is the Criminal Minds spin-off.

An interesting move by Channel 4.

Quote:
“Channel 4 has struck a development deal with Kinetic Content, the new US production company set up by former RDF USA boss Chris Coelen. Under the deal, 4Rights, Channel 4’s rights exploitation division, will have first-look at UK rights to Kinetic shows which get picked up by US cable networks.

In effect, Channel 4 is seed funding US cable shows which it can then broadcast over here. At the moment, it’s talking about developing two or three shows each year.”

They claim that the move will give them more creative control in their US series and say that they hope to do more such deals in the future
_______________________

Perhaps mindful of some declines in the past season or maybe just with a slew of new programming, ABC are reinstating their "current" department, which looks after existing series. Traditionally, US networks had separate development departments and current departments but in cost cutting, ABC and NBC did away with it. Both have now reinstated the current departments. FOX and CBS never made the switch in the first place.

They are usually posted during the main TV season, but in the summer not so much. It would be good to see them, as I don't usually get to look at TV By The Numbers.

Yeah I was thinking that it might be intresting for people who don't have the time/don't know about "By the Numbers" but are intrested in American overnights.

I was posting them during the main TV season (until the end of May) but I've taken the summer off! So on you go! I put up the cable ratings once a week but haven't really posted much from the main networks.

PS: Until just over a year ago, somebody else was posting the US ratings regularly. They went on holiday, I said I'd do it for a while, but they never came back!

lol, I didn't realise anyone else had been doing it as I only came into the thread mid June. I'll do it up until the main season and then in September we can both just do it in a first to post/ be bothered way.

It's good that CBS have a midseason drama but I'm annoyed at the creation of the CM spinoff. Why create a spin off when you're having to make cuts to the casting of roles in the main series.

new show = cheaper cast, CBS has been getting really tough about cast pay, they did it with all there shows (from what I can tell) NCIS very pubically was without its cast confirmed, less so but same for CSI, and Stella left CSI NY because of it.

One other piece of US news which I forgot;

Justin Bieber is to guest star in the season premiere of CSI. This somewhat absurd piece of casting, which marks Bieber's acting debut on primetime television, is most likely an attempt to recreate the success of the Taylor Swift episode in 2009. That was the last time that CSI surpassed 20m viewers and the episoded skewed younger than usual. That episode was 3m+ higher than the episodes on either side. Whether it replicates that remains to be seen. But it's not a particularly encouraging sign for the health of the franchise, IMO.

Thanks, common sense that CBS would do this I guess but I just hope this it doesn't ruin CM. I wish they just used the spin off money for CM

God, they must be desperate. It really does make the franchise look very weak when they have to depend on singers to bring viewers in.
