I suppose in its heyday C4 breaking down during a BB eviction would probably be their equivalent of ITV1 missing a goal. Although at least when normal service resumed, they did actually show everything that otherwise would have been missed. If they'd come back to show Sunshine leaving the house, that would be a different story!

Think the Ghana game from last night might just have had a peak of over 10m. The revised ITV schedule was:

19:00 - World Cup
22:30 - James Corden's World Cup Live
23:00 - ITV News
23:35 - FILM

I didnt think it would be that noticed, but when it happened my Facebook went a bit wild and mad, statuses saying how awful C4 is as its happened many time before.... it always happens to be during BB as well, didnt know that many people still watch BB out of my friends.

I think its the fact that it was the eviction/Bens stand up that people were annoyed, i doubt people would have been that much annoyed if it was an ordinary HL show.

No reason to be that annoyed. They still showed all of the programme. A power failure at Elstree can't really be blamed on C4.

Superb rating and share for Wimbledon, absolutely justifies the decision to keep it on BBC One.

The football did well, and I'm guessing with HD the peak was over 10m. Extremely poor for Corden though.

BBC1 did as well as expected vs the football, while Big Brother did OK.

If you have the figures, how did BBC News at Six do on BBC Two? I presume it was dented quite a bit from the normal 3/4m figure.

Also, how did the News at 10 for BBC do and the News at 11 for ITV do? I would have expected ITV to maybe do well with football viewers sticking with Corden but that obviously never happened.

EDIT: BBC have confirmed they'll be showing the 2nd semi final on Wednesday - ITV showing the 1st semi on Tuesday (Uruguay vs Holland).

Hmm so 2.3m and 2.5m for BB.
Is that the first time in ages that the 2nd show outrated the 1st show?

Tbh i expected that for the 1st show, tha match went on until around 10:20pm!! So people would have missed the first show. Expected more for the 2nd show but not surpising, it got 400,000 more than last week and is probably the highest rating eviction since Karly's eviction/BB10 New HMs went in.

It would be nice to do a news roundup occasionally on the media site, especially after the chaos last night!

Here's the figures:-

BBC One
10:00pm BBC News at Ten 3.15m (14.1%)

BBC Two
6:00pm BBC News at Six - 1.58m (9.3%)
6:20pm Regional News & Weather - 1.82m (10.6%)

ITV1
11:00pm ITV News - 1.22m (9%)

None were popular choices it seems - the main news of course being either political, or Andy Murray/World Cup Q-Fs. So, it's to be expected

Wow. I thought the Regional News at 6:20pm above wasn't actually on - it was on BBC One at 6:30pm.

But still, a set of poor figures - what it did mean (and I didn't realise this initially) is that James Corden was actually beaten by Big Brother head-to-head. Not sure that's worthy of an or not!

Extremely surprised the ITV News figure wasn't higher though!

No surprise considering how in favour of the BBC the deal is (and denying their commercial rival the more commercially attractive games). I really do think with the way the quarters were split the semis should have been split so the BBC showed the winners of the ITV games and ITV showed the winners of the BBC games.

Certainly with ITV effectively getting the first picks from the first two rounds of group matches and BBC then getting first pick of the last round, second round and quarter finals, the first pick for the semi should have reverted to ITV.

Who has ended up with the most games then considering they'll both show game 64. I'm guessing the third place play-off is the extra which ITV are getting - but what that be commercially attractive enough to compensate for having the last picks in the quarters and semis?

It's to be expected really, because James Corden's show was built around patriotism. Now England are out, there's just no point watching the show.

It doesn't help that he's a really bad comedian too, in my opinion. Yes, a good actor, but as a comedian, just copies Ricky Gervais's high-pitched laugh/voice, and gets really touchy...a cringeworthy figure.

Really good rating for the Andy Murray match - shame we'll have to wait another year for a British finalist! Wimbledon dented ITV's afternoon match as usually you'd expect 3m+ with those two teams involved. The evening match rated really well though - ITV have got lucky that their 4th pick matches in the last two rounds have gone into extra time as otherwise I'd imagine they'd have averaged about 5-5.5m.

The Mentalist's overnights have slipped by quite a bit in the last few weeks, though the competition has been very tough. Big Brother did okay as it's a healthy rise from the ratings from last year but it's not too great. Family Guy's ratings for BBC3 are absolutely fantastic (10% share)!

By the end of the tournament, BBC1 will have aired one more live game than ITV1.

BB did fine, first bit hit by football, second normally rates about that anyway. I know I thought one would get 3m but either way not surprised by that. But as seen earlier in the week, it will be alright once football is over. Of 6 matches left to play, BB definitely goes up against 4 of them and has a risk of going up against a 5th. After that it will settle at around 2.6m.

Hopefully the James Corden figure will make ITV reconsider their huge deal they're reportedly doing.

I don't really like him as a person, but I did watch a bit of his show when Big Brother went off air last night, and it wasn't that bad.

Regardless of whether England are out or not, I would have still expected 2m or more off a 9m+ lead-in.

It won its slot really convincingly as well, and Lee Nelson's Well Good Show was winning its slot after Family Guy.

In the future, we may see BBC Three begin to dominate late night viewing. I have noticed (since I've had the daily ratings spreadsheet) that the channel regularly picks up big audiences between 11pm and 1am, especially on Friday and Saturday night.

It's a young audience coming back from parties/etc, for sure. It's something Channel 4 and ITV would yearn for.

Well, the audience dropped to around 5ish million for the last 15 minutes of the football, as you would expect...so I wouldn't say it lost a massive lead-in.

I think sports fans had probably had enough by 10.30pm. Perhaps these after shows are good ideas, but with the success of ITV4, I think that's the place for it, not ITV1.

It has worked in this World Cup, though, because on balance ITV could've completely tanked with extra analysis/random shows in that 9.30pm-10pm slot.

As the match ended at 22:15, many viewers must have switched over to another channel then (or switched TV off completely). So the actual lead-in it got can't have been much more than 4 or 5m.

Was 10.1% the highest share for BBC Three in the late night/evening, or did the audience share peak higher?

Also, it'd be worth noting that all 600,000 would be watching live as the cut off point is 2am which makes the figures more outstanding. Its not like Lost a few weeks ago where you had 50,000 watching live at 5am with 600,000 watching 'as live' until 2am the next morning.

Ah, PJ says the last 15-minutes had 5m - but still 5m to just under 2m is a pretty steep drop off.

Wow, Animal:24/7 being BBC One's most watched programme of the day, technically.

Yeah it is a pretty steep drop. I think it does okay in the 21:30 slot because it starts half way through most other programmes on the other channels, so people just stick with it instead of starting to watch half-way through another show. Last night, it started pretty much exactly when Jonathan Ross and BB began so I bet people opted for them especially after watching 3+ hours of football.
