Thanks, Steve.

A few memories on that list.

“22) Roy's Raiders (BBC, 1991) 3.7m
Awful Saturday teatime sitcom about motorcycle messengers”
I gave up on that after two episodes, Which is unusual for me, as I normally stick with bad sitcoms until the bitter end i.e the end of the first and only series. I adored
Waiting For God, so I don't understand how the writer got this series so wrong.

“21) Roland Rat: The Series (BBC, 1986) 3.7m
This chart only features primetime shows, which this was, on Saturday teatimes, although unlike I think every other show in this chart it actually got a second series... but shown as part of CBBC”
I watched this! In my defence, I was only a schoolboy at the time! Roland Rat had a BBC3 in one of his shows. I think it was this one. I seem to remember Steve Nallon (spelling?) dressed as Margaret Thatcher, and closing "BBC3" down.

“20) Hit The Road (BBC, 1994) 3.69m
Spun off from a Gotcha concept on Noel's House Party, this was a celebrity treasure hunt game show which didn't even finish the series”
I watched this, too! Only out of boredom, though. It was grim. John Leslie in a Range Rover with female (and male) celebs, I recall.

“19) Athletico Partick (BBC, 1996) 3.66m
Scottish sitcom about a crap football team starring Gordon Kennedy”
I watched this, too! Can you see a theme developing?

I suppose it had its moments. From the era when all the BBC1 shows I watched would start off in good slots but end their runs in bad slots!

“17) Bad Boys (BBC, 1996) 3.65m
Scottish comedy drama by the writer of number nineteen.”
I adored this! Don't know why, but I found it really funny. Extreme dentistry with snooker balls in one episode.

“14) A Perfect State (BBC, 1997) 3.46m
One of ten shoddy sitcoms BBC1 tried out in 1997 starring Gwen Taylor, written by the writer of number 22. I remember William Phillips citing the reason for this show's failure as being because Gwen Taylor was in it, who is awful”
Watched this, as well. Mainly in disbelief, though. Think the last couple of episodes finished up on Sunday afternoons. She cropped up in
Pilgrim's Rest a few months later. I watched
Pilgrim's Rest, too! Mainly because Gary Olsen was in it.
Quote:
“11) Alfresco (ITV, 1983) 3.37m
The sketch show featuring Ben Elton, Emma Thompson and Fry and Laurie, which played an important part in the history of alternative comedy... in retrospect, anyway”
No recollection of this, but I'm surprised Emma Thompson's 1988 sketch show is not in the chart!
Quote:
“8) h&p @ bbc (BBC, 1999) 3.03m
The worst programme ever made - first episode at 9.30pm, last at 11.50pm”
Watched this. Again, mainly in disbelief. The Hale and Pace contract didn't really produce much in the way of ratings for the BBC. Although, I'm not sure how
Jobs for the Boys rated.
Quote:
“5) Nice Day At The Office (BBC, 1994) 2.92m
Sitcom with Timothy Spall as a bored office worker, which I quite liked, but shown at 10pm on Mondays after Panorama for some reason”
I enjoyed this. Still slightly annoyed at missing one episode, due to a power cut!
Quote:
“4) The Weekend Show (BBC, 1995) 2.91m
Dale Winton later said this was the worst job he ever had, a sort of proto-One Show at 7pm on Fridays with dull features about the Great British Public and a bored studio guest. In fact, it was exactly like The One Show”
This was too bad, even for me.
Quote:
“2) Safe and Sound (BBC, 1996) 2.37m
A comedy drama set in Belfast, about a love affair across religious boundaries - almost guaranteed to flop, that.”
I think I watched this. Was it paired with
Keeping Up Appearances repeats on Friday nights? If it was, I watched it.
