I'd say it actually appeals to two slightly different markets if you compare the content of the two shows. X Factor is about finding a commercial artist MBTM is just about finding talent. I don't see why there can't be appetite for both.

I think it will be lucky to average half what Got to Dance managed at the start of the year. (1.12m series average)

That too was scheduled around the same time as a similar show on a mainstream channel (So You Think You Can Dance, BBC One) but that was in its debut series and never really found its feet if you'll excuse the pun, enabling the more polished Got to Dance to score points with critics and viewers alike.

I think its pure arrogance by Sky to think the same thing will work again when an established hit like The X Factor is involved. They are becoming increasingly desperate to compete with the big boys when it comes to entertainment shows. Credit to them for trying, but I'm not sure this is the best approach. Even though Must Be the Music claims to be different from The X Factor, essentially it's more or less the same format with a slightly different end goal.

It's rarher brave of Sky to schedule Must Be The Music so close to The X Factor. Personally I would've waited and aired it in January after The X Factor finished and hope to pick up on those X Factor viewers who are suffering from withdrawal symptoms. Still, we'll see whether it's been a good move when looking at the ratings tomorrow.

Wise words. I'll probably regret nailing my colours to the mast in the morning.

I think MBTM will do about 500k for the first episode, rising to around 600k for the second.

I think over the course of the week with the amount of repeats and taking into account Sky+ etc. the rating for MBTM will top a million but I doubt the figures tomorrow will be overly impressive.

Credit to Sky for putting so much effort into it though, production values seem strong (like most of Sky's original programming). Having said that there is way too many recaps of how the show works and who the judges are. I suspect Fearne Cotton may put some viewers off, I am sure she has fans but she also seems to grate on quite a few people.

Fearne Cotton is quite popular in certain music circles, so for the type of show that its trying to be, I doubt she'll put many people off.

I don't think it will average quite as well as Got To Dance but I think it can easily average higher than 0.7m. Tonights episodes were very strong and there was more talent in it than last years X Factor & BGT combined! I reckon it got more or less 0.8m tonight.

I didn't see it but it does seem to be getting some decent feedback. There has been significant promotion and Sky1 do tend to get decent ratings on Sunday nights. I think singing has broader appeal than dancing so even with it being summer, I wouldn't be surprised if it was similar to Got To Dance (was that 0.9m for the first overnight?).

Those predicting 0.7m to 0.8m: You're expecting it to beat Don't Stop Believing then?

As mentioned on here earlier in the week good to see Sky 1 have finally come to their senses and put The Simpsons back on Sundays at half 6. Presumably it was just done to prop up MBTM but nonetheless glad its back in it's traditional slot.

DSB probably had its best night tonight, I only caught a glimpse of Must Be The Music on Sky but it looked really good. I cant imagine DSB winning TBH which is a bit sad for five.My prediction-
DSB-0.5/0.6million
MBTM Show 1- 0.7 and Show 2- 0.8 million

19:00 Rules of Engagement 0.98m
19:30 Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation 1.44m

Very competitive in the 7:30pm hour with TBYG hitting a series high. Solid as ever for Dancing with the Stars. 60 Minutes and Ten's telemovie also performed well. Quite poor for CSI.

at Secret Britain! Clearly some were expecting Sherlock still to be on.

Good for Heartbeat, but poor for Unforgettable (surprisingly) and poor for Balloon Adventure.

Oh my God. Is it Christmas already?

Don't Stop Believing thrashed Must be the Music.

Delighted with that result. Well done Channel 5.

You should see the demos thou:

Adults 65+ - 2.48m
Adults 45 - 64 - 1.78m
The rest (advertiser desirable demographics) - 0.71m

Its no wonder Heartbeat has been cancelled

Surprised this actually lost 21k viewers for episode 2. Not looking good at all for this Sky1 show after all the hype.

Blimey, didn't realise it skewed that much.

I was watching the golf, my wife Sky plussed DSB. There are three more primetime repeats of MBTM plus it's on Anytime this morning (without the ad breaks of course).

Of course the officials will only pick up last night's showing and delayed viewing of that single broadcast.

If we were a BARB home, DSB would get our viewing but MBTM wouldn't.

I think they should put this on Sky three to get more viewers.

Interesting set of ratings..

Excellent start for Secret Britain, and Horsepower may struggle now next week, but undoubtedly send SB down to around 5m. Not quite sure why the BBC can't make up their minds about where to air Countryfile. Just keep it in that early primetime slot and don't mess with it.

Solid night for BBC2, if a little low for Top Gear highlights.

Good for Heartbeat and with the right promotion I can see the final ep managing 6m, but unlike The Bill which is filmed as a final episode, I don't think the producers originally knew this would be the last ever episode of HB, so it may not feel like a final episode. It'll get a nice boost in a couple of weeks anyway with a Corrie lead in and the stable 8pm slot had helped.

The poorish rating for Balloon Adventure once again shows 7pm on a Sunday isn't the right time to air decent factual programming, especially when it clashes with Countryfile most weeks. And the poor 9pm rating is only a one off thankfully. I reckon Horsepower may have been delayed, because of the success of Sherlock, as The Unforgettable seems a type of programme to air in a post News slot.

This series of Chatty Man seems to have gone on forever and ratings seem to have dipped aswell. It also benefits from the BB lead in I think.

Surprised to see DSB make the 1m mark and make a decent recovery, but heavy proof that it needs a good film lead in to do well. The heavy promotion all week obviously helped aswell. Decent night from 8pm onwards aswell-the Cheryl Cole doc was one of those which normally airs at 10pm, but I reckon Desmond wants these celeb style programmes to air in the centre of primetime.

The pre-recorded shows are all over the Sky1 schedule, when the 'live' shows start, the figures will pick up.

And what's 21k in BARB terms? One or two people switching off?

"advertiser desirable demographic" Nearly 1 million 16-24 year old out of work. Graduates unable to find work and and 1000's of pounds in debt. 16-34 year old cannot obtain a mortgage or credit to sustain their lifestyle, and it's going to get a lot worse.

Whereas, 65+ have paid off their mortgage, have gold plated pensions, shop at John Lewis/Waitrose not Poundland or Lidl/Aldi.
