Very interesting that GMTV ratings have gone up and BBC Breakfast have fallen (both by about 0.1m) whilst its the holidays. You'd expect GMTV would fall even further with a predominantly housewife audience. I think ITV will soon realise they've made a massive mistake by axing the GMTV brand and by throwing money at Chiles & Bleakley. The One Show ratings are pretty much the same so the pair obviously aren't that big a draw, and if the GMTV ratings can go up in a short time with zero effort, if they did do a GMTV-style relaunch they'd be able to fix it.

What is the actual figure for 20.6%? I imagine it wouldn't be much above 2.6m? Fair rating for Big Brother though, it has almost zero casual audience this year even like it did last year. Those who are watching are watching pretty much every day.

2.3m, figure-wise, it peaked with 2.5m

I wish they didn't extend it last night, although it shows that die hard fans will watch however long. Including me!

Thank you Paul for posting a full round up. Celebrity MasterChef did well and solid for The Secret Tourist. Michael Ball has improved since earlier in the week, although he probably still needs to find some more viewers to get a second series. Corrie and Police Camera Action rated poorly.

I thought the Raol Moat Tapes would rate better and top 2m. BB did well, getting its highest highlights show rating in a couple of weeks and that peak share is fantastic,

Wait, that was last night's schedule and not tonight's?! So that's yet another Corrie episode I've missed, well done ITV, nice advertising.

Its a shame they dont repeat them on ITV2 and at weekends

The One Show honeymoon appears to be over

Are Corrie's ratings down year-on-year? Seem to be, but that just might be my impression.

Comparing the last official week (w/e 8/8/10) with the same period a year ago (w/e 9/8/9):

Average rating last year: 8.4m
Average rating this year: 8.1m

So, it's down in terms of raw numbers. When you consider that the 2010 panel is supposed to give a 4% boost to the figures, it's probably down a bit more than that. However, it's further complicated by ITV1HD being there this year, taking about 250k from the main channel viewers...

2 Aug 0.188m
3 Aug 0.204m
4 Aug 0.222m
5 Aug 0.143m
6 Aug 0.162m
10 Aug 0.185m
11 Aug 0.144m
12 Aug 0.155m
13 Aug 0.131m
16 Aug 0.175m
17 Aug 0.158m

Corrie's 2010 average is about 3% up from last year.

But as KennyT mentions, the new BARB panel apparently adds 4% to figures. All in all, there certainly hasn't been any major decline in its official ratings.

Great for BB, but on DS article it says between 10pm to midnight... it finished at 11:35PM though.
Can someone clear this up for me.

Raul Moat doc did quite poorly, I was expecting around 2.5m for that.

The One Show fell quite a lot.

So if true that means X Factor will air on Christmas Eve 2011 and possibly even Christmas Day as well?

On the plus side at least the Christmas no. 1 single will be more of an event again.

I'm glad the Raoul Moat doc flopped. I think it was pretty well documented at the time what happened. I don't believe it is right to give him even more notoriety.

Next week's Cutting Edge sounds much more interesting.

Completely agree, no need for the Moat doc, What's next weeks about Dancc?

Oh I do completely agree with that, when my Dad was flicking the channels and saw it, he said "Why do they feel the need to do this?"

No one really had a stellar night last night... Masterchef dented the ITV soaps, but they in themselves performed respectfully all considering.

Seems like Big Brother won't budge at all.

The 2.54m rating for BB is for the time it was actually on air. DS have just got the times in their report mixed up, but their rating is correct because it's tape-checked.

Whatever they do with Dancing on Ice, I don't think it should air in the Autumn because it'd clash against Strictly Come Dancing and its ratings would fall.

Hopefully they reinvest a lot of the money saved from not having X Factor live shows next year into a few new drama series which can help ITV rebuild lost ground on weeknights. It's unlikely that'll happen though based on their track record.

I hope this doesn't happen, but I suppose they could have two series of I'm a Celebrity next year to make up for lost ad revenue. Essentially, in 2011 they could run:

DOI: January-March (as normal)
IAC (1): May
BGT: August-early October
IAC (2): November
TXF: Late November 2011-March 2012

And then revert back to one series of IAC in 2012, with DOI pushed back to Spring. It would be total overkill of a stale format but they've had 2 series of IAC in a year in the past, and you know ITV - desperate times call for desperate measures.

From DigiGuide:

Quote:
“DOCUMENTARY: My New Brain
On: Channel 4 (4)
Date: Wednesday 25th August 2010 (starting in 6 days)
Time: 21:00 to 22:00 (1 hour long)

Each year in Britain, 135,000 people end up in hospital with a traumatic brain injury. Most at risk are young men, and the effects, though often hidden, can be profound and life-changing for the people affected, as well as their families and friends. In this powerful and moving documentary for Cutting Edge, acclaimed filmmaker Zac Beattie follows 20-year-old Simon Hales on a remarkable journey through rehab, as he and his family come to terms with the challenges of life after brain injury.

Possibly. Or ITV might have a 2 week gap over the Christmas period and just wrap up judges houses the week before and start the live shows in the new year.

There's scheduling complications in the US as well. The World Series will clash with The X Factor live shows which could see a couple of them being moved to different nights at short notice.

As for Idol, Deadline Hollywood reported yesterday that Steve Tyler has now signed his contract. According to her father, Kara DioGuardi is learning of her fate from the media because none of the producers or FOX have been in touch. At this point, she thinks she has been fired, but she isn't entirely sure! Jennifer Lopez is still expected to sign up but is allegedly demanding $20m, a huge entourage and use of the 2 story "trailer" that Simon Cowell called a dressing room.

And to top it all off - there's still no agreement between FOX, Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment and Idol owner CKX to actually broadcast the 10th season. That's because the last contract signed (back in 2006) stipulated that 9th and 10th seasons would be ordered automatically but only if the preceding season achieved an average 8.0 rating among adults 18-49. Idol 8 did that and Idol 9 was ordered. But Idol 9 fell just short and now FOX have an opportunity to drive down the license fee in the wake of Idol's weakness. Basically, by missing the target by a tiny amount, CKX could lose millions of dollars.

FOX drive a hard bargain. How many other shows have they got that are capable of getting anywhere near that 8.0 rating? I'm willing to bet not many.

With regard to BGT, they could just keep it in May. If they double up the auditions shows (Saturday/Sunday) and have 6 rather than 7 (make them all 90 minutes) then they'll be able to get through it all in 4 weeks.

So in 2012, when the bank holiday is 4th of June:

BGT:
Auditions:
Saturday 19th May, Sunday 20th May
Saturday 26th May, Sunday 27th May
Saturday 2nd June, Sunday 3rd June

Live Shows:
Beginning Monday 4th June (bank holiday), possibly skipping the 5th due to the Diamond Jubilee and finishing on Saturday or Sunday.

X Factor should finish on March 10th, so they would have about 10 weeks between the 2 series and we're assuming that Simon will quit Britain's Got Talent.
