I didn't exactly say 5m, I said, probably double last week.
Looking at the actual schedule, it may not have that much of a boost as BBC1 have got a common junction time with the end of The X Factor, and John Bishop is the sort of show that very easilly mops up viewers channel hopping.

It shows that people who work for the BBC are less pro-BBC/anti-ITV than people in this forum, and will happilly cover ITV programmes when they think it is worth it.

A lot of men will watch the earlier rounds, if not for the crap contestants but Cheryl/Pixie/Katy/Nicole.
Intellectual viewers could opt for the more conservative BBC who will be airing Tonight's The Night, or 101 Ways to Lose an Audience 20 minutes before X Factor

I think its just to do with the BBC covering the return of one of the country's most popular shows, as any respected broadcaster would. BBC staff obviously arent as petty as some on here.

Those party lines have long been dropped though, but ITV did ban Ant and Dec from being interviewed on the BBC for some reason late last year - though they've regularly appeared on C4 chat shows.

Apparently that was only because the BBC banned Barbara Windsor from appearing on Piers Morgan's show. And and Dec had already been booked for Jonathan Ross prior to that.

Apparently there are not very many weak contestants in this first episode, according to Kevin O'Sullivan.
I guess they want to make an impression early on after the not very impressive talent pool of last year.

Of course, last year an additional 3 or 400,000 watched on Sky Sports 1. This year it's only on Sky Sports News.
So, it's total audience was around 1m.
I'm sure the migrating SS1 viewers, will more than make up for the missing Freeview ones.
A good night for Celebrity Masterchef last night. Doc Martin repeats are not doing as well as New Tricks repeats always appear to. Big Brother had a good night considering how much the second part was stretched out.
And so the childishness starts for the rest of the year. Admittedly, it never has left the thread but it'll certainly pick up now as a high rating show comes into view (especially when it's an ITV high rating show).
