Just imagine the shock when the ITV announcer says " this year's X Factor has been cancelled". I would love to see the reaction to that, about 20 million non fans would tune in just to see if it was true.

Please Fudd, dont make out ITV is the only channel that ever gets criticism. Im sure there will be a lot of posts about Strictly tanking again when its a couple of million behind X Factor.

At the end of the day its just a bit of fun.

Good news for whom? ITV and BGT?
Don't you think BGT would get a ratings boost if they were able to replace Piers with Paul O'Grady?

Very true. When Strictly Come Dancing comes back we won't be able to move for retorts.

How's that good news - it means we'll have to keep him.

Thanks. At least that's something - ITV really need to push the boundaries and take risks on drama so they have long rather than short series.

I see the annual XF joshing has started in earnest. Lets just keep it good natured folks, we don't want to wind up like the Broadcasting forum.

Great for Celebrity Masterchef yesterday and on Thursday. Shifting the main Masterchef to BBC One has definately lifted the brand. I was never a fan of the move but cant deny that it has worked. Scheduling still needs work though.

A strong week for the new team at The One Show. It'll never topple ED, but it pulls 20% on a consistent basis - close to the channels primetime average in such a difficult slot. And as suspected, the appeal lies in the format, not the presenters.

I've got Cheryl - All The Hits on on MTV Hits*. Or I did until they started playing Something Kinda Ooh which I absolutely hate. Now I've switched the TV off to post this post. I'll put it back on in a minute to see if the next track is one I like.

* not all the hits, obviously. The one on the toilet attendant's not included.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the ad rate for XF this year? Lots more ads than I thought.

Should be five ad breaks.

There were more adverts than programming, although it was all worth it with the woman at the end

X Factor finished at 20:55, so if DS reports first then the last 5 minutes will be knocked off. Don't forget also about the ITV1 HD factor - which could knock 1m off ITV1.

Xtra Factor ratings will be interesting- the general concencus on DS and Twitter is Konnie Huq isn't as good as Holly Willoughby.

Two obvious reasons for that.

Most of them are people complaining about people posting it, when it's only really the haters bringing it up every five minutes!

Looks like it'll be the same as next year - an opening 90 minute episode, then probably four 75-minute episodes and I'd guess a 90-minute one for the final auditions. I'd definately change that too eight one-hour shows next year if it runs in the late autumn slot.

ITV like the 75m slots. They're allowed a fourth internal break, for just an extra eight minutes of programme.

Two 90m shows and four 75m gives them 26 internal breaks. Eight one hour shows only gets 24.

Two breaks is a lot of money!!

BBC1 are heavily trailing Great British Waste Menu (Wed 8.30-10.00). No doubt they're thinking that if Celebrity Masterchef can get 6.2m against Liverpool v Trapdoor then GBWM can do nearly as well against Tottenham v Young Boys.

I wonder if Holby will actually get more viewers on Wednesday than on Tuesday this week. Don't forget, Tuesday's programme is on against New WWTBAM which comes with a great new catchphrase we can all chant at Chris Tarrant: "Don't mention the falling ratings. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it."
