Real shame for Dexter, combination of relatively obscure channel, massive delay from US broadcast and (perhaps?) lack of marketing. One of the best shows in recent years should be doing better. I guess lots will see it one way or *ahem* another.

----------------------------------------------
Secret Britain dropped off nearly a million from last week but it's still a really good rating. Okay for the Martin Clunes documentary, his previous documentaries have rated better but I suppose they had a wider appeal (about dogs and Britain).

Good rating for Big Brother- its highest Sunday rating in seven weeks. A lot of us thought the ratings would dip in the few days leading up to the final due to the mediocre housemates left so it's done pretty well in the last couple of days and bodes well for tomorrow's final. The early start for DSB hurt it but I guess Five couldn't do anything else due to the cricket having to stay at 19:15. It's generally rated poorly all series anyway.

Tonight should do OK off the back of a strong weekend and it being the last ever regular highlights show.

So The X Factor repeat on ITV2 beats both the Five talent show and the Sky1 talent show. If you're to add up all the showings so far, then you're looking at a reach of 14 million so far. So Daily Star, you were nearly correct in your 16 million prediction.

One surprise is Countryfile - unusual high rating for it. Match of the Day 2 did well, but I'm not really surprised after the surprising results earlier in the day.

Very poor ratings for DSB, down from the 1 million they had the week before. It definatley deserved higher rating IMO, its just the acts were not very good. :P

Wasnt it Cricket at 7.15pm on five?

It will be after timeshifting. The reach of course will be higher than 14m. The average is 14m so far.

Got a feeling there's some errors with the ITV multichannel data, because:

27 DRAGNET (WED 2000) ITV1 HD 0.64

Is almost certainly wrong. And doesn't show up in the ITV1 HD top 10. Is that STV actually?

Also:

1 GILLETTE SOCCER SATURDAY 09-10 (SAT 1200) 641

That's a very good rating, and would suggest that the effect of coming off Sky Sports 1 may actually turn out to be quite negligible and null and void.

Gillette Soccer Saturday - 641,000 for first day of Premier league season (6 hour programme average).

As expected:

1) A bit higher than previous ratings on Sky Sports News because there is no longer a simulcast on Sky Sports 1

2) Far lower than some previously reported combined ratings (ie for SS1 + SSN) as 641,000 is the average across the entire 6 hour programme. (Previously BARB reported separate ratings for different segments - the 3pm to 5.15pm segment used to get a combined rating over 1m).

Still, never mind, we do have a "base" figure for the 6 hour programme while still available on Freeview. We should get a second base figure for Sat 21st and after that we can compare to how it does after leaving Freeview.

Also for comparison: SSN average weekly viewing - 17 minutes (1.1% share)

Interestingly that compares to :

Sky Sports 1 - 19 minutes (1.2% share)
Sky Sports 2 - 9 minutes (0.6% share)
Sky Sports 3 - 7 minutes (0.5% share)
Sky Sports 4 - 3 minutes (0.2% share)

hmm I'll have to check that with BARB, probably will have to come down

Not sure if anyone's noticed, but it appears there's been a late change to BBC1's Sunday schedule for next week:

5:40pm Halcyon River Diaries
6:40pm BBC News
6:50pm Midlands Today
7:00pm Countryfile
8:00pm The Very Last of the Summer Wine
8:30pm Antiques Roadshow
9:00pm Secret Britain
10:00pm BBC News

The schedule was set to run half an hour earlier (with Halcyon River Diaries not in the schedule) until 9:00pm, but because of Coronation Street at 7:30pm, they've moved it so the last ever Last of the Summer Wine does not clash with it. The rest of their schedule is the same.

No LotSW tribute show?
And has Antiques Roadshow ever been 30 minutes long before (unless that IS the LotSW tribute show )

Sky1 must be disappointed with the ratings for Must Be the Music -

15th August: 380,000 and 359,000
22nd August: 330,000 and 284,000

I know the programme has plenty of repeat showings, but given the fact that there have been MBTM DOG's on Sky1/2/3 all week, features about the show on Sky News, and a repeat of last week's tactic of having a trailer for it in a large number of advert breaks, plus the use of break bumpers, and they must have thought they would see an increase in the first showing ratings from last week.

Yeah, it is disappointing. However, I think it's a pretty darn good show. I'm enjoying it alot more than XF at the moment.

It looks like X Factors poorer brother at the minute. Its a good show but could probably have benefitted from being on around April or even finding a new slot for Got To Dance and airing it during X Factor hangover.

I had a feeling Must Be The Music was destined to fail. Wrong time of year and (probably) wrong channel.

I think Sky1 will run into the same problems as Channel Five have suffered with light entertainment. Very difficult genre to break into especially if the brand is not typically associated with that type of programme. They got lucky with Got To Dance but I think that will be the exception to the rule.

There is also a case to be made that they shouldn't be trying so hard to emulate what the mainstream channels are doing all the while. Sky1 doesn't seem to know what it wants to be at the minute, but in multi-channel you can't be the jack of all trades because it doesn't work unless the brand is really strong.
