I think MBTM has struggled because it has been scheduled so poorly. 3 hours of it last night was way too much. I'm watching the second show right now after Sky+ing it.

They should have scheduled it 2-3 weeks after GTD finished with 1 hour a week. Then 4 semis and a final.

Still very poor figures considering the number of homes that can receive Sky1 and the amount of promotion it received.

I could see it falling outside of Sky1's Simpsons dominated top 10 within a couple of weeks.

None of the 10 billion (approx) repeats charted either so that excuse can't be trotted out...

Although it would of course have an incremental effect on reach, it doesn't appear to be too significant.

What makes it even more bizarre is that Fearne Cotton has close to 1m followers on Twitter and the judges all have big followings in their own rights.

It will be interesting to see if Got To Dance can hold up when it returns.

That's a lot of people interested in what Miss Cotton has to say. Personally she is one of those people I can't stand. Her Radio 1 show is excruciatingly poor and in a kinder world would not be broadcast, least not by the BBC.

Exactly, The X Factor thrives on this sort of thing. They do say there's no such thing as bad publicity and I suppose there's some truth to that (although it depends on the controversy, as Big Brother found out to its cost).

I do still think though that the worst thing for the show would be if nobody was talking about it at all.

The commercial channels very evasive about their budgets. Maybe some of them have more dosh than they'd like us to believe?

Unlike the BBC their figures are audited independently. So unless you know something, we don't..............

Must do. Claudia Rosencrantz says there's no reason why UK pay TV channels couldn't be serving up high quality original programming in the same league as True Blood, Dexter and Sons of Anarchy. So why aren't they then?

Ridiculous scheduling by Sky. Just putting MBTM on at this time of year is silly enough but to actually schedule its shows against the ITV2 repeats that often hit 1m+ is just pure incompetence.


Im sure the BBC have or will do somethng to mark the show's end, they did a Countryfile special on it to mark the start of the final series.

Also, good to see the BBC moving the final episode away from Corrie so it can get a decent final rating, something that will no doubt irk the ITV execs who had planned to dent it.

Yep, they've decided to keep Last of the Summer Wine away from Coronation St, which is probably good news for both shows. Having said that, Coronation St usually underperforms when it appears on Sundays, and Heartbeat will affect Last of the Summer Wine's figure.

Not a late change, though. That schedule appeared on uk-tv-guide on Wednesday evening. It's easy to get caught out when they publish a very detailed provisional schedule on Wednesday daytime, then update again a few hours later.

ITV have such a stranglehold on talent/reality shows that its hard to see any rival show getting any kind of a foothold.

There's a Songs of Praise episode from the town where Last of the Summer Wine was filmed. Some of the cast will be interviewed in that.

I'm not entirely sure how well that'll work. I'm not aware of any of the current cast being deeply religious.

The impression I got was that this was a buoyant feeling BSkyB after the success of Got To Dance throwing caution to the wind and saying "hey, look, we can compete with the big boys now."

It hasn't worked out for them in quite the way they hoped so like all Sky flops I expect to see it appear on Sky3 within about 12 months.

Ive seen some pretty dreadful comments on LOTSW on various sites saying how it should have been strangled at birth and that its been a byword for tedium etc-its obviously forgotten that for all of the eighties and much of the nineties it truly was a national treasure getting audiences that are only wishful thinking in most cases today. Yes things were different but people werent forced to sit down and watch.

As for this series-Iv made a point of watching and its arguably the best this century-there is a bit of a hook storyline whereas alot of the recent series have been aimless meanders. Four and a half million aint bad.

Sky1 are spending millions on original drama and comedy. Perhaps now she works for BSkyB she's getting extra?

To be honest I think the people in control with its destiny at the Beeb were not fans and had frankly become embarrassed with it. The Countryfile and Songs of Praise segments are just a rushed attempt to do something when if they could have brushed it under the carpet they would have done.

There has been at least one significant tribute documentary in more favourable times but I dont think there was ever a chance of a golden send off-its time has gone.
